RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) Preparation for Bernie Sanders rally Thursday at Memorial Park is surprisingly at a minimum for Rapid City and the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
Preparation begins for Bernie Sanders' rally at Memorial Park
After meetings with Sanders' production team, the city must only provide a few things.
The Civic Center is providing the bleachers, smaller stages and some security for the motorcade.
Rapid City is asked to make sure the irrigation system is turned off so everyone stays dry.
The Sanders team is handling the rest, including his own stage, the fencing around the event and more.
"We were a little nervous. We had some meetings with their production companies and once that happened we felt a lot better because our involvement is going to be small, but then again we do events for a living. So, we could handle it if we had to," Rushmore Plaza Civic Center executive director Craig Baltzer said.
The best places to park are downtown and in the parking lot across from the Club for Boys, because entrances to the rally will be from the promenade and the bike path near the Fifth Street bridge.
