Bernie Sanders picks San Jose for first major Bay Area rally

SAN JOSE -- Bernie Sanders is bringing his call for a political revolution to San Jose Wednesday with a 1 p.m. rally at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.

This will be the Vermont senator's first major Bay Area rally leading up to his showdown with Hillary Clinton in California's June 7 Democratic primary. He made a brief stop at his Oakland campaign headquarters last week after campaigning in the Central Valley.

The rally is part of Sanders' two-day swing through California that will begin Tuesday evening in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson, where he will address supporters at the StubHub Center as results trickle in from primaries held that day in Kentucky and Oregon.

After addressing supporters in San Jose on Wednesday, Sanders will head to Vallejo for a 7:30 p.m. rally at Vallejo Waterfront Park.

Sanders is making good on his pledge to contest California's primary despite having little mathematical hope of besting Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

Doors open at 10 a.m. at the Fairgrounds, 344 Tully Road. Admission is first come, first served, and the campaign is asking people to RSVP at Go.BernieSanders.com.

It's supposed to be close to 90 degrees tomorrow so we'll need hats, lots of water, sunscreen, the whole shibang (is that how it's spelled?).

This is one of those times where living in SF and working in Walnut Creek really sucks!

However, former President Bill Clinton is headlining a fundraiser for his wife's campaign next Tuesday in San Francisco. Tickets for that event range from $250 to $2,700.

Also, from the article you linked, Bernie will lead a rally Wednesday evening in Vallejo.

edit to add a link to the Vallejo event:

He comes to the Bay Area, but as far as I know, only for expensive fat-cat fund-raisers.

He came here to Illinois once or twice but it was in the Southern part. But even with Chicago in the mix, he lost by only 0.01%. AKA 49-50. Amazing really since he didn't campaign here much.

Have fun!

go to Silicon Valley (San Jose) because there are many thousands struggling to get by there in a hugely out of wack economy.

It's my hometown too!

I agree. I see it everywhere around here. I live in central San Jose and people are struggling here. There is lots of homelessness, people are packing into small homes and/or apartments to get by. Anyone who doesn't make hundreds of thousands of dollars here is struggling.

that Carson, San Jose and Vallejo are warm=ups for L.A.! Remember, please, Dodger Stadium accommodates 56,000.

The Rose Bowl is kind of snooty about bookings, and I believe it's reserved through 2016.

CONGRATULATIONS on winning Oregon, Bernie! And very cool that Jane could give him the good news in the middle of a rally.
