This is forgivable. He's an entertainer repeating headlines. It's no longer the Colbert Report.

The lie was told, Colbert believed it.
It's infuriating to me too.
But not as infuriating as when Maddow tells that lie or Anderson Cooper. They should know better and should research the full story before opening up their pie holes. But Colbert, he's just a parrot now.
