Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumThank you to all AA, Latino, Native American, Asian-American, women and LGBTQ Bernie supporters.
People from those groups who have supported the Sanders campaign had a toughest time of us all in the last year. You were accused of being race, gender or orientation traitors. You were sometimes accused of not really being who you were. Yet you hung in to the end and you brought this country closer to transformation than we've ever been before.
True support is support under fire. You were not only under fire, but walking through the fire.
For all you have done, thanks.

(10,345 posts)As a white male, I can't imagine what anyone else might have had to suffer.
I just appreciate the solidarity! Thank you all!

(3,146 posts)I'm just a white guy with an Irish name with a Jewish girlfriend, and it was a pain in the ass reading and hearing the names and insinuations sent in my direction. I can only imagine how it was for members of other ethnic groups that HRC thought belonged to her that didn't support her.

(7,820 posts)I am white- but about as far from the Berniebro myth as you can get. And I could say the same for most Bernie supporters I know irl.
It saddened me that from day one the Clinton camp played identity politics to divide and conquer.

(17,656 posts)But, reading some of the most vile shit that was allowed to remain on this forum was what changed my opinion about the admins and their ridiculous "jury system".
It was bad before the primaries even started, but it grew worse with each passing week.
For what's it worth, eventually I just threw up my hands and gave up on alerting on any racist, sexist, or anti-gay bullshit that was written on this forum because none of the alerts resulted in a hide.
And that was late last year!!
So, nobody can blame me for any hidden posts they may have suffered.
And since I refuse to waste my time judging those comments made by others by participating in the kangaroo jury panels, no one can blame me for voting to hide their worthless posts.
Civility was never one of DU's attributes when it was election time on Skinner's forum, in any case.
2008 was bad, but this year it was far more personal.
However, I decided last summer that this was going to be my last go around on this forum.
I wasn't going to put myself through all of the maddening gyrations and stand idly by witnessing another bloodless massacre where people who had been offended beyond any kind of standard one may deem "civil" and then responded, only to be the ones themselves punished for daring to respond.
As it is now, I'm not going to waste more of my time reading, responding, replying, much less alerting on any of the posts, ones like the horrendous horseshit that was allowed to remain on this forum in the previous last year or so.
It isn't worth my time, nor my energy.
More than that, trying to have discussions with known liars is toxic.
It's not good for one's mental health to constantly have to refute the litany of lies that are spewed here and then cheered on by others as if it is the Gospel truth.

(659 posts)Black male - whose pro Bernie and majority of people around me who follow politics were also Pro Sanders. Its a strong mistrust in not only just Clinton (It's incredibly hard for me to view her as a fighter for our cause - like I'm sorry, but I just cannot see it at all. While Sanders may not have been as active directly - Clinton straight up supported and support causes that HURT us. But I digress.) but the American government as a whole. To have two candidates who are obviously paid off and bought - and show no shame in being so. It feels not too long ago, no one wanted to be seen as a paid corporate shill...but obviously its a different realm now.

(23,272 posts)The red baiting in particular was despicable. Behind the Aegis, nadine, PCIntern and every other DU Jew spent too much time dealing with that shit.

(212 posts)I was having coffee with a Democratic activist friend of mine whose parents were Holocaust survivors. He said to me, " So, you think we're ever going to have a Jewish President?" After seeing so much of the anti-semitism oozing out of the Hill side, I really had no answer.
