Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumNPR is using the Florida mass shooting to attack Bernie.
They brought up his gun votes and talked about how Hillary had opposed him on it and how the president is the person who sets the tone on these things.
NPR has been shamelessly shilling for Hillary for months, but this is too low.

Monday I'm stopping my monthly subscription to the New York Times for the same reason.

(29,785 posts)When we know the facts and hear them outright lying about the facts, we know they are not fair and balanced, they are spinning it toward their political position.

(11,945 posts)They've also been lying about Bernie, putting him down, misrepresenting his words and actions, questioning his motives.
Last Thursday, I caught the name of this little creep, http://www.npr.org/people/392602474/domenico-montanaro, NPR's "Lead Editor, Politics & Digital Audience," who said Bernie is in the race for his "ego" and then started sneering and laughing at him. On air.
Objective news coverage? Fair? Good ol' listener-supported NPR? Nah. Screw 'em.
But I'd really like a good substitute on the non-commercial spectrum. I used to be able to get Pacifica Radio but can't get it now.
Oh, NPR says they're waiting for more word on the shooting from Hillary. They speak her name in hushed respectful tones. If Bernie said anything about it, they didn't report it. Hill's speech writers are probably hard at work right now.

(14,255 posts)as merely another opportunity to attack Bernie. His reply - that's bullshit. But Hillary is responsible for a great many deaths.

(11,945 posts)But no one in the media ever mentions it.
Bernie, otoh, has always been against assault weapons and always favored background checks.

They cut off comments in very short order. The NYTimes "picks" comments were all against Bernie, even though the commenting readership has been heavily pro-Bernie. After some complaints, they put in a couple of pro-Bernie comments.
The establishment media wants to kill his chances.

Bernie is still in the race, stands a chance, and they know it.

(11,945 posts)The Hill campaign has wisely decided to have her appear sweet and good, only concerned with Donald Trump, but their media -- and online -- surrogates are still viciously trashing Bernie Sanders.
Because she doesn't yet have the numbers to be the nominee, and if Bernie stays in, she could conceivably lose -- depending on what happens between now and July 25.
It makes them nervous.
PLUS: if she is indicted, TPTB want Bernie out of the picture.

(7,321 posts)David and Charlies Koch had been sponsoring NOVA on PBS for a number of years, now. The other day I was listening to NPR, I forget if it was ATC or ME but when I heard their name it all sort of fell right into place.
I noticed it transformed during Clinton's admin. I wonder how much if that change had to with the Telecommunications Act of 1996?
The irony of signing that Act, right wingers to infiltrate every single inch of bandwidth available soley to diss his administration, family and scandals galore.
Go figure..

(11,945 posts)That doesn't affect NPR. NPR is nonprofit and does not buy up other media outlets.
I believe NPR's change had more to do with Republicans having defunded it. Republicans hated NPR because it was so liberal, so every time they had control of congress, they voted to take away more of NPR's funding. Without government funding, NPR was thrown on the mercy of corporate sponsorship, and corporations don't sponsor without getting something in return. So over time, NPR became more corporate in its content. Now it is firmly establishment, in the hands of the oligarchy.
Bill Clinton said, a long time ago, that the media controls politics, and it does.

(7,321 posts)yes, and the lion's share of the defunding began in earnest in the late 80's on through the 90's, I would say.

(11,945 posts)Boy does Hill sound good, quite the expert now -- I wonder if they rehearsed the interview a few times before airing it? And NPR commentators are reiterating each of her excellent points in tones of tremendous respect, as though she were in charge now.
We are being manipulated.
I hope everyone is aware that Sherrod Brown actually said on NPR, a couple of months ago, that he wrote several of her policy positions. At the time, the interviewer changed the subject very quickly.

(11,945 posts)A blatant lie, because at this point we do not have a nominee and anything could happen between now and the July convention.
American media boldly stating lies to its audience.
I like radio because you can listen to it while doing other things, but I'm weaning myself off this corrupt network and looking around for a reasonably fair, soft-spoken news alternative. I'll probably check in for a couple of programs like Fresh Air and radiolab. Will never financially support them again.
