Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumFor those who are mystified as to why Bernie's speech (and, it seems, very existence) is vilified
by the supporters of a different candidate -
(For the deflecting pedants who may screech that this is IMPOSSIBLE! Because time and stuff! - this is just an analogy. Thanks in advance for resisting the urge to marginalize and deflect.)
If Abraham Lincoln had had the temerity to run against Hillary Clinton, and delivered the Emancipation Proclamation and the Gettysburg Address as part of his platform, I truly believe that Hillary's supporters would immediately swoop in - be it to the taverns or the internet - and declaim angrily that just who does A. Lincoln think he is! and tell us that the Emancipation should be carefully done in incremental stages, and also who the fuck does Lincoln think he is.
This is what they do. I have accepted it, and use my full ignore key when I see it. Not worth one second of angst.

(2,978 posts)There's the anger that he's called them out on an ideology they don't want to admit they share, but again, they'd only be that angry if they felt threatened.
I think they must fear she'll be indicted and/or that his continued presence might force actual change in the DNC and/or make her hawkish and neoliberal policies continue to look bad--otherwise, they'd just move on. If he's as irrelevant as they keep saying, why do they even bother?

(24,324 posts)While some pretty nasty stuff has come from both sides, in the last week or so the vitriol, ridiculing, demeaning (wish I had abetter phrase than grave stomping), coming from the Roman Empire that was, much to its surprise, almost overthrown by a previously assumed-to-be pipsqueek, is just childishly appaling.
The posts every three minutes looking for new and old ways to shit kick and laugh are like a pissing contest.
It is OK. If that is what some people want to do, that is fine.
The Romans have no idea what the fight was about to begin with, and never will understand.
So---I suggest we on the side of the formerly assumed-to-be pipsqueek, just ignore each and every post and comment, every single one.. Do not reply to anything. Just 100% ignore it.
It is not worth the negative energy.

(11,945 posts)His honesty, principles, goals, and massive, enthusiastic support are the anti-Her.
As long as he is still in the race, she is not the winner.
They will verbally abuse him mercilessly for standing between her and what they want for her. He stays strong because, unlike she -- who is in this for herself and the 1% -- he is in it for the people, for us.
So I thank Bernie Sanders, from the bottom of my heart, for staying in the race.

(14,255 posts)Which is sort of the point. The actual issues would mean nothing.
As far as being a "Democrat", Bernie is more of a Democrat than any Third Way new Democrat. Which is why I am leaving the party. In August, after the primary to run for Rubio's seat. War, fracking, the TPP - that is not a party I want to be associated with.

(7,321 posts)I worded that badly! Nah, the primary is for those who want to run for Rubio's seat - for the Democrats, it is pretty much between Grayson (Progressive/Liberal D-FL) and Patrick Murphy (DINO/New Democrat - FL). Looks like the GOP candidates vying for that spot may drop out, since Rubio realized he would miss his perks of office, and, evidently, no one offered him a lucrative job in the private sector. Jolly has already dropped out.
