NBC5: Sanders weighs in on new Senate budget deal - Video at link

BURLINGTON, Vt. —
Sen. Bernie Sanders sees some good and bad news in the Senate budget deal announced Wednesday.

The two-year deal is intended to foreclose short-term budget extensions and it raises spending for both the military and key domestic programs.

Sanders, a Vermont independent, was especially happy to see an increase in funding for a federally-subsidized network of community health centers. About 25 percent of Vermonters receive health care from those centers. He also applauded a boost in funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Expanded military funding drew a rebuke from Sanders, as did the absence of any resolution to the plight of at least 800,000 people who came to the U.S. illegally as children, and now face the prospect of deportation. The issue has divided Congress and the White House for weeks.
