(9,199 posts)I was thinking of your grandpa as an older fella, when I realized that he's only a couple of years older than I.
Oops.
You are a good grandson.

(18,998 posts)But like you the first one I got excited about was RFK and never felt the same way again.

(15,793 posts)After RFK I remember a real comer Gerry Litton who died in a plane crash the same night he won his Missouri Senate primay. Plane engine crankshaft had been possibly sabatoged. Hope Bernie Sanders stays safe. Sanders reminds me of Litton.

(18,998 posts)But I am afraid to express it.

RFK was the first and last candidate I felt excited about.

(32,723 posts)I like older houses.
I had one built in the 19th century. All of the trim and interior doors were mahogany and had mortise locks for skeleton keys. There were French doors leading from the living room to the den and a pocket door between the dining room and kitchen. The dining room also had a big bay window with a window box. The walls were classic lath and plaster.
These days they make homes out of 2x4s, plywood, stucco and drywall. The interior doors and trim are white painted pine.
KoKo
(84,711 posts)It looks okay from afar to the untrained eye....BUT.
Or they skip the pine and go for the Plastic in the Crown Molding.
Yeah..it's for the "Buy and Sell Show Off crowd" who just needs something that looks good for the moment but nothing that will stand the "Test of Time" when the place needs to be painted again for the new owner.

(32,723 posts)Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)She's probably mid 60s. She looked up at the ceiling, said "Thank you, Trump", then proceeded to complain about all the black people living in mansions in Boston, ruining the rich neighborhoods. I should note, the shop I work at is in Melbourne, FL. She later went on to imply that she wanted Trump because he would "get rid of all the blacks". Trump is doing quite well amongst the racists.
Spitfire of ATJ
(32,723 posts)All those black people must have gotten a HUGE raise in their welfare payments thanks to "The Food Stamp President".
Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)I couldn't believe she felt no remorse talking to myself and my boss about this openly in public. I was ready to start yelling, but my boss is very non-confrontational, and doesn't like to disagree with any customer.

(32,723 posts)Check out this classic clip from the Malloy Show where he pretends to be a right-winger to string along someone from the anti-gay Christian Action Network.

Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)he's got 18% support. The Republican pool is so diluted right now that 18% is a majority. I don't believe he's in the mainstream of Republicans, but he is in the mainstream of Republican racists.

(34,589 posts)a right winger, and not the true Lefty that moonbats think he is.
America needs a real life-long Third-Way Progressive, not some "Socialist" that suddenly embraced Leftist ideals.

(8,421 posts)And I second (or third) the posts about RFK. He really was 'it' for me, too. Haven't felt the same since he died...then Wellstone.... be safe, Bernie!

(155 posts)When I graduated high school Dwight Eisenhower was President, and I and all my family were Republicans. Today I am an ardent Progressive Democrat'. It's not so much as if I left the Republican Party they left me! Now I support Bernie. I have listened to him for years on the Thom Hartmann radio show. At a family picnic on the 4th I was talking to my grandson, a recent college graduate, about Bernie. I found out that both he and I had contributed to Bernie's campaign . Now 3 generations of my family are going out on July 29th to support him and work on his campaign.

He's been incredibly disciplined about staying on message, which has to be a bore.
