Bernie Sanders

My years in Oklahoma go back farther than I want to admit....But here's the gist of the email conversation I'm having with an old classmate....
and I quote because I can't say it any better
Well, besides boys in high school, we have political differences. However, Trump is not my favorite. We do need change and pretty quickly! It was interesting when we went to canavaral in Florida to see the space center; they commented on the fact that the very talented engineers now are coming from overseas and not the U.S. We need reform in education. We need reform in our health system. I don't know who will be best, but it will soon be seen. Hometown is full of non-English speaking Mexicans who have been brought in illegally. Many are illegal and they are, by law, not suppose to be employed here! Wrong! It is overlooked. A lot of violent crime and drugs. You would be really shocked. The economy has really taken a hit. It is really a different environment here so many really poor people. The two of us didn't grow up facing this way of life. This world of tech is good in some respects . I do think our young people are growing up with 0 communication skills, and a total loss of respect for authority. They refuse church involvement, their morals are very questionable. What is seen on media is violent and unethical. The young who will inherit this world are in trouble. We need leaders that cannot be bought out! I don't know anything about Bernie, but I will pay more attention. If you support him, then he is of interest to me.
These people know enough about Hillary that they won't support her! Bernie's outreach may prevail....

(12,648 posts)Especially the ones who will admit the problems within Washington are caused by both parties and the political/media system.
The far right will bring out both barrels and paint him with the cold war fear they are so fond of.
The final outcome of the 2016 election will hinge on economic realities here and foreign events that may uncork the protectionist knee jerks.
The support for the establishment is tepid, at best. They're ruining our world and then calling it our fault.
President Obama tapped that deep desire and hope for change. He then proved that it can't come from the establishment, ever.

(3,795 posts)on board with supporting him in the primaries here in Virginia.
I have worked very hard over the past two decades to transform my parents from conservative Republicans (Southern Baptists from Alabama no less) to Bernie Sanders supporting Democrats. My parents are good people, and I was not going to let them continue to support Republicans. They always voted, but didn't like to pay attention to politics. I made them start paying attention to who they were supporting and who they were not supporting. And, it worked.

(9,497 posts)Many people of different political persuasions don't trust the government and the status quo.
They know the system is rigged, they know they are being asked to look over here so what is going on over there can continue to do so.'
Bernie is very plain speaking. He doesn't hedge. He wants to change the system.
And....he isn't asking just the democrats or the republicans, he is inviting everyone.
It is a beautiful thing really.
