I think he sums up this Latina's (and I am1/4th Ojibwa Native, too) feelings about Westlake since the beginning. It is very thoughtful and very pro Sanders at the same time.
Please check it out, thanks!

(42,641 posts)I loved the part:
"Although light years ahead of his Democratic counterparts, Bernie Sanders will ultimately become a better candidate because of the Black Lives Matter takeover of the microphone and stage in Seattle." Gyasi Ross, Blackfeet Nation/Suquamish Nation Territories
Talking about genocide is uncomfortable. Talking about slavery is uncomfortable. Talking about why three out of five Native women are the victims of sexual assault, largely by non-Native males, is uncomfortable. Talking about Jim Crow laws is uncomfortable. Talking about why Native and Black people end up dead at the end of police gun more often than any other ethnicities is uncomfortable.
But it has to be talked about. We have to talk about it.
Yes, even Bernie has to talk about it.
Sums up my feelings also. Especially the inclusion of First Peoples in the equation. Gyasi Ross has touched on a very raw nerve.
Personal note: I am a white male, 1/4 Cree. My wife saw the photo of Gyasi Ross and mentioned that he looks like he could be my younger brother. Younger, taller brother.

On topic,
His words are so measured and so full. I am happy he jumped on stage, to make sure the women would be okay.
He says touches on the emotions I have been feeling on the whole subject of BLM and why they are using the tactics they are.
People are being murdered left and right and the time for quietly dialogging is over. We must all be uncomfortable and join together forward.

My feeling:
Many people feel that the Civil Rights Act of 1965 solved the problem of racial inequality.
Many people also feel that their are no issues with the First Peoples in North America.
I hope Sanders can appreciate what he is hearing. There would be no reason to speak out at a GOP event. Sanders might represent a better opportunity to have the BLM message get exposed.

(11,945 posts)Tribal Sovereignty: Native American tribes should have sovereign control over their lands.
Healthcare: Healthcare for Native Americans should be improved to better address medical needs and improve outcomes.
Acknowledging Racism: The history of gross mistreatment of Native Americans should be brought to and maintained in the publics attention. Stereotypes and slurs against Native Americans should be discouraged and denounced.
Each item is explained in more depth at the link.
One more very important reason to support Bernie for president!
