(2,975 posts)Supporting Dr.West is unpopular. When he speaks truth it's unvarnished and raw language. A lot of folks I saw going after you defend the #BLM bombthrowing, but rank Dr.West to the dogs and back because he dares.....oh god I almost said something about shovels that would have been TERRIBLE....he dares to speak plainly and powerfully to the short comings on display.

(17,505 posts)Dude! Take a breather.
But I hope (and don't think) this group has become a sycophant echo chamber and someone may ask a probing question about Sanders or bring in some unflattering meme or news to discuss, analyze and hash out.
This is of course healthy.
I read somewhere that some fervent supporter of someone else has something like 110 posters on ignore.
If you have over 100 people on ignore.... should you even be here on DU? Is that helpful for finding out what's up with your chosen candidate? Are any questions and criticism a "disruption"? Are we here to just smile and nod our heads like a bunch of cattle?
I hope not! I don't see that here. But compared to GD.... it is an island of calm.

(19,537 posts)I got a post hidden for the first time since I was on DU just the other day.
It was asking why the debates were being held up, and I posted a picture I'd found on the internet of Debbie Wasserman Schultz and called her a DINO and said she was probably trying out for a part in the next sequel of Jurassic Park. That by itself probably would have been OK, but I wanted a picture of her as well lo make a statement. I googled her and found a pic of her with a picture right next of her of Jar Jar photoshopped on her face. I wasn't really intended to put that image as a comment on her physical appearance, but to make the DINO connection more definitive, as Jar Jar had the appearance of a "dino"... Probably would have been better off looking for another pic with the text "DINO" next to her instead. Anyway it got hidden because people thought I was being mean spirited and making a comment on her appearance being like Jar Jar, which wasn't really my intent (even if it might have been the intent of the person doing the original photoshop). I just told myself I need to be careful and not let other meanings that I might not even be intending be conveyed in a post that are more personal in nature and not to the point of a political issue or the like with the "alert stalking" environment we're in.

(29,257 posts)DU, for me, right or wrong, was built with an ideal in mind.
To speak truth and NOT give in to Democratic or other Washington-based machinery.
DU is the underground that the grass should sprout from. The real core values.
I won't let that be undermined with party machinery. I'd rather be thrown out.

(46,179 posts)it's becoming harder and harder to justify support for HRC. And the harder it gets, the weaker SHE gets, the more vicious the attacks are.
There's really very little they can attack Bernie with. On issues? He leaves her in the dust on economic justice, and passes her without a problem on social justice. So what have they got? The traditional push to marginalize candidates from the left. It's not working this time, though. Nothing their doing is working, which is why the attacks are getting more and more vicious. And it's why there's suddenly a Biden frenzy. If HRC can't do it, and she can't, somebody has got to rein in the left. I don't think that's going to work, either.
It shouldn't surprise me anymore, really, but it does. I'm always about issues. I'm a Sanders supporter because he's got the best record and best platform...on issues.
It is illogical and unreasonable to me to see people shouting about issues one moment, and shoving those same issues under the rug, or rationalizing, the next when it threatens the status of an individual Democrat. For so many, it seems to be more about the story you tell, the way you spin reality, than the actual issues affecting people on the ground.
This is the best, and maybe the only, chance Democrats have to take their party back from neoliberals whose policies have made the party less relevant. I honestly don't get why any Democrat wouldn't want to do so.
Except for neoliberal Democrats, of course. Are there really that many of them?
MisterP
(23,730 posts)they assume that "X likes all the issues you like because they're X" and "policy Z and Y are good because X supports them"; they end up admitting they have nothing, so it has to be counterbalanced with vitriol
in some countries the duopolistic parties can perfectly match on policy, so they end up digging up 50-year-old massacres and saying the other party'll unleash the death squads if elected (entirely true, but overlooking that BOTH party chiefs had run the squads)

(5,141 posts)I dont post anti HRC stuff so I havent been on the attack list yet, but Im painted with the Bernie Brush and some people who were friends before who are active in HRC wont engage with me at all. Its so childish - - just because were supporting different candidates?
I do have some friends & former employers who are close to HRC. I understand she is a genuine, likable and very intelligent woman. She was a fantastic Junior Senator for our State. She has many great qualities and it sounds like I would like her very much. But even the people who know her sum up her prospects with the simple word baggage. Most of the BS she has to deal with is manufactured, like that stupid email scandal and some hangovers from Bill, but some things I will never be able to swallow, like her way-too-cozy relationships with the banks (some of the aforesaid employers are hedge fund managers), her reluctance to take a stand on XL, and her proclivity - like most politicians, not just HRC - to wait to see which way the wind is blowing before taking a stand on important issues (like gay marriage) is bothersome. I love that Bernie is so absolutely genuine and consistent. Hes an old-school public servant who has not enriched himself by his position.
Will I vote for her if she is our candidate? Absolutely. Do I think shell be our candidate? Objectively, the answer is daily becoming less and less certain, and I believe she will NOT be.
But Im not going in the HRC group to say that, and I think they should just leave us alone in here. We should be able to be enthusiastic about our candidate without being attacked.

(22,000 posts)I can think of at least two DUers who I would say I was friendly with (no necessarily friends because I didn't know them outside DU) up until early this year. One of them said that I apparently don't sufficiently support President Obama enough. I challenged the person on the statement and I got nothing but crickets. Both of them are being self-centered assholes (note not only did I not use names, I also didn't specify which gender they were).
We have continued to have Clinton supporters who come in here and tout who they are and lecture us. I honestly don't feel like turning the other cheek. No, more like whacking them over the head.
dorkzilla
(5,141 posts)It is so fucking juvenile and petty - - what I cant understand is do these people think theyre going to change our minds? And then complain about our group lecturing them? Ive seen HRC threads calling us Berniebots, nut jobs, freaks, extremists, delusional and all sorts of other really ugly things. Are we supposed to have a group hug after the primaries?
I love how they come in here saying the polling numbers in NH mean nothing, but her polling numbers in Iowa are significant in the HRC group.
I wish we could just play nice in the sandbox, agree to disagree, and stop doing the GOP opposition research for them. Its fucking tiresome.

All we need to do is speak fact and truth, and let detractors babble inanely at each other, all full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing except for the toxic fumes of burning plastic.
We can state our case, and discuss it reasonably among ourselves, while others jabber angrily and senselessly to each other, into the void of empty cyberspace.
