Grassroots gatherings for Bernie Sanders

Be kind, I've been here since 2011 and this is my first OP!

One of the Bernie pages I like on Facebook sent me a link to the meet-ups and I see that there is no meeting in my city, Columbus, Ohio. It's like the 15th biggest city in the US and there's no meeting even close by. Should I host one or should I wait until a 'professional' hosts one? I am not a public speaker AT ALL and I don't have any political campaign experience aside from a single Dean meet-up a million years ago. I am a gardener who generally has the appearance of a bag lady. I imagine at this point everyone is waiting for someone else to start and I don't mind getting the ball rolling and then passing the baton to someone more competent. Or should I just be patient and wait for someone else to do it? Or should I start one for my closest suburb (Grove City) and hope other meet-ups pop up in surrounding areas?

If I do host an event, will someone provide an itinerary of what we should be doing? Does anyone have suggestions for locations? I will have a million questions, where can I find answers?

As you can probably tell the idea of hosting an event makes me very nervous but I'd rather host an event than not participate at all. Thanks for any and all help.

If you'd like to join or host a meet-up, do so here: http://www.peopleforbernie.com/99meetups

If someone from the campaign does not step in to assist, there may be someone here on DU who is local and can help. There may also be others who could assist via PM's to get you going if this is a first time kind of thing.

I'm going to PM some of the other hosts and see if they have an itinerary I can borrow/follow or other ideas/advice. Thanks!

I'm sure once you start it rolling, others will be more than willing to help.

And keep us posted, there might be other members here who are in your area so post a notice if you do decide to do it.

Thanks for the OP

I'm sure I will continue to need it! Here is my meet-up in case anybody is close and wants to drop by!

The Panera in Grove City is pretty small so if there is much interest we may have to move it to a larger venue. Happy at this moment, will probably be worried sick tomorrow, lol!

Wish me luck!

to the State Group also.

Also if you do make another OP, you can keep us informed there.

Congratulations on taking the step, I know it's a bit nerve racking, but good for you!
