17. Yeah, I was thinking about how many "small donations" (e.g. individuals) are the others getting?
I have no doubt Bernie is well in the lead in the number of people donating. It's a gauge of public support far moreso than how many million dollar donations has a candidate received?

Bernie Sanders Raises $24 Million, Powered by Online Donations Exceeding Obama’s 2008 Pace
BURLINGTON, Vt. — Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont raised more than $24 million for his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in the last three months, a significant sum that was fueled by a torrid pace of online donations: more than a million so far. http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/09/30/bernie-sanders-raises-24-million-powered-by-online-donations-exceeding-obamas-2008-pace/?_r=0 |

23. WEEEEELLLL, I Think I Might Have Heard It Earlier, LOL!
About 1/2 ago I just made my 4th $35 contribution. Shush, don't let my husband know, he thinks I've only done it 2 times. So no telling what the total will be by tonight. AND, I talked to my sister who has been a huge Hillary supporter on the phone last night and we talked a lot about politics. She knows I've been a gun ho activist for years and she started asking me lots of questions. I "think" I changed her mind and she's very stubborn too.
She only has basic cable connection and I watch FSTV and RT, plus she knows about my blogging. As with so many Democrats & people all over the U.S., she knew very little about Bernie so I told her about his "socialist" stands. Asked her what's wrong with socialism and she said nothing, so I went on. Filled her in on some of Bernie's platform and asked her what she thought, she agreed with everything issue I talked about, BUT she was unaware that he only takes money from "we the people" no Super Pacs. She liked this fact a lot. And I didn't bash Hillary, but told her some reasons why I'm not supporting her. One thing I did say was while yes, it would be great if we had a woman in the WH, we shouldn't simply vote for a woman because we've never had one. Told her that I needed to feel a real connection with who I was voting for and Bernie Sanders is the first candidate I've ever felt as much respect for. But I did say I was extremely upset with so many Democrats who touted the same issues as he does don't seem to have really meant it. Some of the most Liberal candidates have come out in support of Hillary. Also about DWS and her apparent bias against Bernie. But even bias of almost all our so called Democratic Congressional leaders. My thoughts that these leaders are acting like Repukes and are walking in lock step as if they "got the memo" that Bernie needs to be ignored as a viable candidate. This to me seems that the Democratic Party I joined many years ago no longer represent the "big tent" theory, but still want to say they do. Behind the scenes too many Democrats are as connected to Wall Street as Repukes. Unfortunately, she's older than me and doesn't have a PC so I can only send her written statements about what he believes. Seeing him on uTube and other places are much more effective. Anyway, in the past she always stuck to her guns... this time she listened. |

the sister thing. But my sister has always been a Democrat since way back. Just wanted to give her a heads up about Bernie because she only reads local paper and has no PC. Limited TV too, just basic cable which I don't think has CNN or MSNBC! I don't watch them, but have alternative channels like FSTV.

30. I agree re Hillary -
all things being equal I'd like very much to see a woman in the oval office. We are long overdue. But all things aren't equal in this case. We have one populist who is depending upon us all to vote for him, and one candidate who is getting her donations from the very wealthy. Who will she be loyal to? The people who fund her.

63. Excellent, ChiciB1!
That's a good example of how it can be done. Yes, I think an honest expression of why this candidate is different and why his campaign matters can make people stop and think.
My "elevator speech" in casual encounters is simply, "Bernie's for us. He's for the people," said with openness and a smile. Even if it just gets them thinking, gets them curious, it's a good start. |

64. YES, I've Found It Better To Give Reasons For Why
I support Bernie as opposed to attacking Hillary. Just talk about Bernie's pluses and tell them to check it out and make a comparison. While Bernie is gaining ground, our own Party seems to be doing whatever they can to make him go away.
So we need to pass his message on to those who are unaware of his platform. |

I've worked my butt off for Democratic candidates in the past but it was always so that our side would win. This time, I'm supporting a candidate whose vision for America matches my own.
And one who I know is telling the plain truth about what he thinks and how he feels, not just "campaigning" to look good. Bernie is the first candidate who has ever seemed entirely real and entirely GOOD to me. I didn't even know this could be possible. It's a wonderful feeling. How lucky we are! for every $25 donation that comes in we realize these are the voters that are just scraping by. How many are not able to donate at all but will hear Bernie's message loud and clear? 59. NPR just reported a big difference between Bernie's and Hillary's contributions.
They reported the overall amounts, which are close, then noted that Hillary's contributions were split between very small and huge, making the average donation quite high, while Bernie's are consistently small and numerous. Guess which one represents genuine grass roots?
![]() I have heard from several sources that very recently the Hillary campaign started begging people for numerous tiny donations. I am so glad that NPR pointed out the difference. |
