Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI just had a major heart stopping shock.
I was on the phone with my grandson (he's stationed at Norfolk Naval Base).
We talked a little about being lucky that the hurricane missed the coast.
We were talking about how pleased he was to be able to vote for Bernie in the Texas Primaries. He'll be out of the Navy in January.
In the middle of our conversation he said "Grandma, why won't you open the door". I thought I misheard him so I kept on talking about Bernie. He said it again.
I got up and went to the front door and there he was. I almost passed out.
It seems the Navy was going to evacuate and told anyone with leave coming to take it. Well the hurricane turned, Norfolk didn't evacuate, but my grandson was half way to Texas.
A heart stopper for sure, but one I'll take any day.

(4,879 posts)It was the best thing that could happen to me at this time.
I love being a grandma.
He went to see his in-laws (he married in July). He will be back tomorrow and then go see his mom. He will be back here for a few days before heading back to Virginia.
I must cook him some of his favorite stuff. LOL.

(2,663 posts)It was her birthday and I had been trying all afternoon to call her. She finally called me and I was talking to her. My son yelled something at me, and I turned my back, telling him I was talking to Hillary. Then my daughter said, hang on a second and I felt a tap on my shoulder. I said not now, I yelled, then I heard a soft voice say, "mom, turn around". It was surreal. I kept staring at her then staring at the phone, because my brain just wouldn't put it together. Turned out the entire family knew she was coming, but she wanted to surprise me.
malokvale77
(4,879 posts)I love that.
Surreal was certainly the word for my evening.
To our children and grandchildren.
To loving families and communities.

(6,592 posts)As do most guvment/military agencies.
It's the plutocrats that are the problem.
malokvale77
(4,879 posts)Thank you for that SusanCalvin.
They tried to recruit him into the Nuclear Submarine program (he scored that high). He refused that and went into aircraft mechanics and electronics.
He is a proud member of VAW121 (Bluetails). Those beautiful prop plains with the big communication discs on top (A2c's - A2d). He deployed on the IKE #69.
He had planned to make the Navy his career, but the latest lies and backtracks over purpose and pay (he participated in the Alaska "war games" has disheartened him.
Yes, it is the plutocrats who are the problem.
I will be glad when he comes home permanently. I like having him around.
