Bernie Sanders

designate party affiliation before you can vote. I know this, but don't feel I'm good at explaining WHY Independents, NPA or others need to register to vote and what it means if THEY DON'T do this and WHY their vote is needed to support their candidate.
For instance, as time goes by I'm finding A LOT OF PEOPLE, and I'm not just saying this, it's very, very true who aren't registered as Democrats but say they support Bernie.
Would someone here Start A Thread that explains why it matters for them to re-register? I do not feel I'm very good at explaining this and don't want to get it wrong. I would really appreciate it because it's becoming very clear to me that Bernie is really picking up momentum and he needs their vote in the state of Florida/
I'm going to start a thread later about what I've encountered here in my very RED county in Florida. I've supported Bernie for a very long time, before he even jumped into the race, but NEVER did I expect to see so many people coming on board. It's really amazing. But that's for later, just would appreciate it if someone could explain the Primary issue clearly so others who run into this issue in their states can make sure the importance of this.
Thanx

Time runs out... just not sure I'm the person to explain to others WHY and what will happen if they don't vote in Primaries. Need clear EXPLANATION!

Nothing more would add any more information. Simple instruction is the best instruction.

(2,760 posts)between Closed vs. Open primaries. If you want to vote for Bernie, you need to have the right ballot with his name on it. In an open primary state, you get to chose, but in a closed primary state you only get the ballot that matches your registration. If your registration says I, you don't get a ballot with Bernie's name on it.
Maybe back it up with a rift on how Bernie had to change his registration from I to D in order to be on the Democratic ballot. I have a lot of friends registered as independent and I keep reminding them they have to change, but fortunately they all know why and don't question me.
It is important and we can't stress it too much!

(17,064 posts)Only registered Democrats can vote in the Democratic Primary. Only registered Republicans can vote in the Republican Primary. Sanders will be listed on the Democratic Party ballot. To vote for him in the primary, you have to be a registered Democrat.
That's it in its simplest form. Use that to explain to people, if need be.

(15,435 posts)understand why/what it really means. The real importance of WHY you need to vote in a Primary! Too many people don't understand why it's not good enough to vote other than on Election day.
So getting registered 29 days BEFORE the Primary here in Florida is the cut-off date to register. I think the Presidential Preference date is 2-16-2016. So work needs to be done since I'm finding more and more people who are NPA or Indy who are coming on board. This is a state that has MANY transplants so many aren't aware of this fact.
OK, going to check Florida Group.
