You have to be one of the incredibly lucky few. Someone with a job that pays far more than minimum, someone who gets a full ride from a college for whatever reason. (I was one of those lucky few - my graduate degrees were fully paid for by the university AND I was given a stipend large enough to afford living expenses in exchange for part time work, because I was in programs the university was trying to keep going with few students.)

I don't 'come from money'. Both of my parents were working class, a teacher and a librarian, on a part of the country where salaries aren't particularly high. My 'glide' was more about going into programs where the University wanted students, rather than ones that were more popular with other students, than about 'having money'.

But yes, educational opportunities should be open to all, and not dependent upon ability to pay or luck of the draw.
