I don't want to debate who won the debate. I just copied the actual headline.

Washington (CNN)With the first Democratic debate in the books, a new CNN/ORC poll finds most who watched think Hillary Clinton had the best performance of the night, but her strong showing hasn't boosted her standing in the race for the party's nomination.
Clinton stands at 45% in the race for the Democratic nomination, with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders behind her at 29%. Vice President Joe Biden, who is considering a run for presidency and did not participate in last week's debate, follows at 18%.
Behind the top three, former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb had 1% support, while former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Harvard professor Larry Lessig and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley all held less than 1% support.
Compared with pre-debate polling, Sanders' support is up five points since mid-September, but no other candidate showed significant change.

Among those who had actually watched the debate, Sanders' favorability increased from 62% to 84%!

(45,251 posts)A three person panel, one of whom was Begala, who runs a Hillary PAC, and another of whom was Brazile, an officer of the DNC. IIRC, the third was from the Atlantic, which published the infamous Bernie Bro story soon after the debate.

Just your average unbiased panel.

I figure it this way: if the major media outlets want to sweep Sanders's supporters under the rug, or hide them in the crazy aunt's attic ... Fine and dandy - pretend we don't exist ..
It's kinda like 'unskewing' polls - you make the numbers fit your agenda, and it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but, come Election Day, the polls get un-Unskewed, and you are left holding the bag ....
So, go ahead, MSM and Hillary supporters .... Feel free to correct those erroneous polls showing all that support for Bernie Sanders ...
Come Election Day, Bernie is gonna eat your lunch ...

(5,066 posts)In national poll Bernie is 16 points behind. In 2007 at this time obama was 20 points behind.he would beat trump by larger margain
than clinton and does about as well as clintona gainst carson, who won't be the nominee
The bad is debate didn't get bernie closer on issues.
and let's remember i remains to be seen how many will be able to see remaining 3 deabtes since they might only be seen localy on
CBS,ABC,and NBC.It's unknown if MSNBC will boradcast the NBC one.
Clinton has higher favorabilty ratings than bernie but he has less unfavorable raings than her and more room to grow.
if biden isn't in race it turns into 23 point lead for CLinton 56 to 33 nationwide.which again seems to echo this time in 2007
thing that is very discurging is all these polls having Clinton as winner with such a huge lead among dems.that clearly wasn't how i saw it with bernie making it about issues and her making it about her.although it doesn't seem to have helped her too much in overall race.

Hillary might have won on style, but Bernie definitely won on substance.

(5,400 posts)Cliffs Notes: Sanders went from being mostly unknown, or seen as too radical or eccentric, to being mostly seen as being likable, and a highly credible choice for the nomination. That's a huge get.
I'm happy with that as the gains Sanders makes as his campaign message spreads can't be honestly said to be like a sand castle. There now is no tide to come in and wash away these gains. Sure, he can lose, the same way Clinton lost in 2008, or the way any popular Democratic has lost in the past.
This was critically important groundwork that had to be laid, regardless of the cost. Senator Sanders showed great composure in not being distracted from that.
He may (or may not) have lost The Academy Award for best performance to Secretary Clinton as a result of the debate. But he's the one who now could say, (not that he will) about the Democratic party as a whole (and even the nation), what he couldn't credibly say before.
