Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumWell hi
gotta say this is a good thing for the race. Though we will not endorse anybody... well except money (I think that such an endorsement would make a point to readers about CU), I am glad to see a candidate running for the Presidency who is TRYING HARD to bring back the discussion to policy.
I have been following Bernie for years. I personally think he does have a chance. not a large one, but a chance nonetheless. The reason for not a large one has to do with MAJOR media, who will do all they can because of who benefits if the status quo is maintained.
But this will be an interesting race to watch, at the very least.

(68,644 posts)Frankly, I think it's the worst thing that could happen to Clinton and to the GOP.
He speaks to a huge swath of America on matters of economic equity.
The others can't touch him.

(154,021 posts)to the usual suspects... and anecdotally I Have heard people you would not expect to know WHO bernie sanders is, well tell you all you ever wanted to know... but for multiple reasons, MONEY... lots of it, and how corporate media works...
And I will gladly eat that prediction by the way, and see him sworn in as POTUS. Perhaps after the 2008 promises I am not willing to do more than just hope, if you wish.

(3,431 posts)Yes, I think that he has a chance. And if all the 200,000 people
volunteering for him, even just in their neighborhoods, it
just might work out.
We might, just might see some spirited debates, if HCR will
not triangulate all the time.
Let's not ever give up hope, at least not this time.

(154,021 posts)and what you are seeing is what I expect. People are starting to accept the we have no choice, they chose for us, like in most oligarchies. There is a last chance to change that, but...

(7,499 posts)Glad to see you. I think Bernie has an excellent chance IF he has the opportunity to get his message out. My concern is that the MSM has already decided HRC is the anointed one and will focus exclusively on her. I do think Bernie has been in the game long enough to anticipate that and have a plan to effectively deal with it. I really, really believe he is the change the people want. If he can be heard, he can win.

(154,021 posts)which HRC is not, and that will help him.
I also know that he will be discussing policy, which a lot of folks here will not precisely like.

(7,499 posts)He's willing to go on the news programs and answer questions. What a novel idea!

(154,021 posts)I stated it here on GD. I expect two candidates to say yes, for vastly different reasons:
Bernie Sanders and Ben Carson... perhaps Huckabee
I do not expect HRC or Jeb Bush to say yes. I expect them to ignore it. (Never mind Bush has yet to declare)

(7,499 posts)If a candidate is reluctant to answer questions, it's because they either have something to hide or want to determine what answer/position is the most politically advantageous before responding. If a candidate is going to present him/herself as a candidate for president, they darn well should be ready and willing to answer any and all questions.

(154,021 posts)independents still try, but major outlets are concerned about ACCESS. It is a sick thing, and when I point this out, people say it is not true. Well my experience is precisely that. Might be because I live in an area of the country that if we slid to the ocean none would care. Never mind it is the 8th largest city in the country.
(Especially when it comes to politics, the only reason pols care for California it is money, and that is both sides. Major news, well, we could have a major quake, and none would know unless it affects San Fran or LA)
In fact, working on an article on poverty right now... and after some recent reception on this site, I will save myself the tummy ache and not post it on DU. It is not like many here truly have an interest in policy anyhow.
That is my feeling.

(6,592 posts)That may not sound like much, but I am painfully shy. I have tried phones and wound up with a splitting headache. I have never knocked on doors. I will do it for Bernie.
