The Robin Hood bill. Taxing large banks and corporations on their investment transactions to fund education is not robbing the rich to give to the poor. It is rightfully getting big corporations to meet their responsibility to educate the future workforce that they will benefit from. It's past time for them to recognize their responsibility to do this.

(16,286 posts)It would be common sense to expect those with the most to share the most.
That to whom much is given, much is expected, and yes, most of it was GIVEN to them by the rest of US.

(75,480 posts)show today to explain the bill. Bernie didn't correct him. I guess he didn't want to distract from the purpose of the interview. Also Ed seemed to be positively in favor of the idea, which is why I got so upset. Our side can't be giving the opposition any fuel for fire. It's a very bad label IMHO

(24,725 posts)I believe it is quite common in other Western countries. We've become so backward here in the U.S.
Good idea.

(9,214 posts)to the inequity of the economic system of the day?
Maybe we should embrace the name, turn a weakness into a strength sort of thing.
Something like; Damn right this is a Robin Hood bill, do you remember what Robin personified? He personified the inequity of the economic system of that time period, how the poor were expected to pay more than the rich for nothing in return and he wanted to right that wrong just like Bernie does in the present day. When 99% of all new money goes to less than 1% of the population you're damn right Robin would have done something about it!

(75,480 posts)for something else for someone else, it gives them an excuse to shirk their responsibility and blame the other. They need to know this is an investment that it beneficial to them in the future.

(9,214 posts)What 1/10 of 1% think and say shouldn't have that much sway in a normal society but then again we are the exceptional society, aren't we.

(55,981 posts)not sure which, was complaining that the kids coming out of our school system were not qualified to work for them and they were having a problem finding "good" people. Well, duh! How much did you pay into the school system to get the qualified people you need? And when our bridges and roads start to crumble it won't just kill us peons (the wealthy don't care) but it will disrupt commerce and hurt profits. The wealthy individuals and corporations must pay their fair share. Us peons are just about tapped out.

(75,480 posts)You had to fulfill college prep requirements in high school. I think you had to have a B average but I could be wrong and have a satisfactory score on your SATS. You then had to maintain a C average through graduation after meeting requirements.
What it did was insure that the best and brightest got an education not just the richest. You still had to pay for books, fees and your room and board. You could live at home if the campus was in your town. So everyone who could qualify could get an education even if your parents were the poorest of the poor.

(15,882 posts)because the alternative is death.
And brain-dead Democrats go right along with 'em.
How hard is it to see the costs of not doing this? Yet little is said, because all the people around the corporations are too busy kissing their ass to think of anything other than profits to stick in their pocket, including the parties that are supposed to be on the people's side.

A thriving FDR Democratic party would not have allowed all of this shit to go down without a fight. But the party has been infested with corporatists who put money over people, just like the Republicans.
We may be doomed

(11,843 posts)They are against State Schools because they compete with for-profit "colleges and universities", what used to be called Vocational Technical Institutes and Business Schools. Can't remember if it was Reagan or Bush I that gave them the right to call themselves Colleges and Universities but most of them are blood sucking vermin that pile debt on students and leave them with nothing or a worthless "degree".
