This could be a WINNER TICKET! People concerned about Bernie's Age and who he would pick for VP would be immediately solved. If THEY Together Could Join Up against Hillary. IF they could Work Together as an Attack Team.
Here's the O'Malley article from the WaPo that started me thinking. I realize that a Senator from Vermont and a Mayor from Maryland might seem Too Northeast in orientation when we need other States of the USA to be a Viable Ticket for 2016..but, given the Repubs "Clown Car" and their current Frontrunner's Crazies...WHO Cares about Politically Correct States to Elect a President?
I love Bernie as President for his Wisdom & Expertise in US House and Senate... and O'Malley's Guitar Songs featuring Johnny Cash, Pete Seeger and others. Plus he's quiet and soft spoken which balances Bernies Fire and Passion.
ON EDIT: I'm reading the replies...Not a "Hit and Run Post"...I just wanted to read what people think....

This is the NEW 2016 Election.....ANYTHING GOES! Trump vs. Carsen? Who better to fight against that pair...
Here's the WaPo article about O'Malley:
They were with OMalley for Harts 84 campaign. And they are with him now.

(14,177 posts)Nina Turner is a fireball so she would be a good pick too. There is a senator from California I forget her name, but she would be a good person to whip up the labor vote. Anyway lots of choices and this one I think would be great in that Bernie and Martin are good personality compliments, one kinda cranky and one who is very polished and polite.

(14,177 posts)That just happen to be women. I love this. I don't need to be pro Hillary to appreciate that.

(5,069 posts)Both are from the progressive - 'democratic' wing of the party and both bring in demographic and geographic balance and both have fire in their bellies.
Thank you for bringing their names up - too much talent in the Progressive Caucus has been and is being overlooked.
O'Malley was Governor of Maryland and he has had a mixed record - there.....Not as bad as Congressman Van Hollen - but after Obama's performance as a candidate and as a President, I just would like to see O'Malley perform more on the national stage. He supported Clinton over Obama in '08 and one doesn't become Governor of a Beltway state w/o being part of the establishment.

(15,265 posts)I think that a Sanders/O'Malley ticket would be great.
Cleita
(75,480 posts)Elizabeth Warren as Veep pick putting her in position to become the first woman President of the US regardless as to whether Bernie serves one or two terms. However, a Sanders/O'Malley ticket would be great with me too.

(27,247 posts)There's the Beltway, which is different from the Chesapeake Bay/Delmarva area, which itself is different from the Appalachia area, especially west of Hagerstown.
That's my understanding, at least.

(9,086 posts)I feel like the days of two white dudes on the ticket is over.
KoKo
(84,711 posts)who is very popular with the African-American/POC Wing of the Dem Party. Wouldn't she be enough if she picked one of the Castro Brothers as her VP?
But, I would have a difficult time voting for her no matter who she picked as VP. And, with her, everything is Pandering...while I think Bernie is focusing on America here at Home trying to help us ALL. Yet he gets trashed for that. I think looking at the Message rather than Color or Gender issues is something we should focus on as we drill down on candidate's Resume's. I think of Margaret Thatcher's Rule in GB as the first White Female Head of Parliament and I look at Ben Carson as a Candidate on the Repub Side, these days, who is riding high in the polls and it makes me skeptical of POC as the only alternative for CHANGE.
Think of Clinton/Obama. I'm very glad we chose Obama over Clinton given her Now record as SOS and her Hawkish Message in today's speech before the "Council on Foreign Relations." But, many want a Woman who is Hillary...not thinking about what that Woman's performance has been in her role as SOS or her Husband's past record who will serve with her in the White House if she is elected..
We can get beyond ourselves carving up people as Lib/Dems according to Gender/Race/Sexual Orientation and all the things we want to promote getting in the way of POLICY and PAST POLICY?
I want our Dem Candidates to be held accountable to All... So....there's that.
KoKo
(84,711 posts)Does Anyone Think that Bernie/O'Malley could Bring Change that you would approve of
compared to Hillary/Bill?
What are the differences in the two sets of candidates and who would you pick for Bernie's VP and if O'Malley gets his numbers up who would you pick for His VP?
"Balance of Ticket" seems to be a concern to those who have replied who want POC on the ticket for VP and Swing State Balance whether it's Bernie or O'Malley (who is a long shot).
Cheese Sandwich
(9,086 posts)It can be a discouragement and hurt turnout.
I'm not saying it's the only factor, but it's a serious consideration. Right we don't want Margaret Thatcher just because she's female, but at the same time if there is a strong progressive woman in national politics, she should be on the short list for VP. And people of color too.
But anyways we're seriously putting the cart before the horse here LOL.

(11,785 posts)Bonus points if it's a swing state.
Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)O'Malley hasn't been picking up major numbers of votes in the polls, so I doubt he really brings anything electorally to the ticket.

(12,647 posts)I'm holding out in hopes for a Sanders/Warren ticket. That would secure the White House for the next 12 years.
Hiraeth
(4,805 posts)for that reason and because, I think she can do more where she is. Eight years of Bernie will pave the way for eight years of Warren is what I am hoping.
KoKo
(84,711 posts)But...I hear you. She's a female ..not a POC that many would want, but she is a fierce ally for us here on the Left of Dems.
And...she is a fighter for "Common Good."
Duckfan
(1,268 posts)But expect Bernie to be bold and likely pick another female as VP. Lee or Edwards could be possible. That would be bold.
KoKo
(84,711 posts)against Hillary and he's been getting a little bit more coverage since. I like that he supported Gary Hart and his folk singing with his guitar makes him unique.
He reminds me of a Dem Ben Carson in his mannerisms.....but, I somehow see him working well with Bernie because of his youth and past affiliation.
But...as many have said here....the team would seem too White and Northeast oriented to defeat Hillary, it seems.
Hiraeth
(4,805 posts)impressed with O'Malley less so with Clinton. Have to admit the idea entered my head and, I am not at all against it.
No hurry though. Plenty of time.
Cleita
(75,480 posts)I don't think a Sanders/Clinton ticket would be possible, nor a Clinton/Sanders ticket. If Hillary is the candidate for the general, she will pick one of the Wall Street friendly politicos in her caucus.

(41,600 posts)how Martin and Bernie were tag teaming the Wall St. Candidate during the last debate. They worked well together! I like Martin. Here's my top picks for VP:
Martin O'Malley
Elizabeth Warren
Barbara Lee
I would have said Sherrod Brown, but not anymore. He endorsed the Wall St. Candidate, so he off my list for everything.
Keith Ellison
Russ Feingold
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)Keith Ellison is staying here in Minnesota at least for now. But, then on the other hand if we like politicians with guitars Keith is good on that front too.

(3,544 posts)They're almost identical.
Warren is my other choice.
dorkzilla
(5,141 posts)But as much as I admire Ellison and would love to see this ticket I don't think the American public would be open-minded enough to elect an actual Muslim.

(41,600 posts)Not so sure about the GOP knuckle draggers though. They would have a real life Mooozlum to hate. And I could only imagine what the rabid RW religious nut jobs would do.

(45,251 posts)Aside from age, not much ticket balance with Sanders and O'Malley
I believe in a balanced ticket, like Obama Biden
.
KoKo
(84,711 posts)some push back when I posted on a thread weeks ago where someone picked her for Bernie's running mate. It was her age, I think, too close to Bernie. She was born in 1946. But she could bring in CA Votes.....and that would be very good for Bernie! Why Not? I thought of O'Malley because I thought they could get along and be a good team against Hillary. And, if they could signal each other to do a "Tag Team." But...yeah..let Bernie keep on and if O'Malley can stay in its still a good team against Hillary. I'd like to see ALL THREE go forward all the way to Iowa/NH and beyond for the first Primaries.
Barbara Lee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(2,342 posts)So.... no need to select someone from some western or more southern state. I like the age mix. I like O'Malley's drive and perseverance. I think the ticket would be unbeatable.
