(14,733 posts)but I just don't do the 'faith' or 'have his back' or any of that other stuff for any politician, even those I mostly agree with. I'm interested in policy and outcomes, not personalities, even ones I find engaging.
darkangel218
(13,985 posts)and not caring to get rich off politics is huge to me.
Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)And I certainly understand that 'personality' is a huge factor with many voters. I still find it distasteful to see people treating any politician as a sort of 'saviour', rather than a potential job hire you expect to do good quality work for you. We hire politicians to work for us, not to be rock stars or religious figures.

(13,985 posts)"We hire politicians to work for us, not to be rock stars or religious figures." He was never a "rock star". Was he one?? Did he claim to be a "rock star"? And about religious figures?.. having faith someone will do the job doesn't make it a religious thing. Not by far!
I really don't care what you think , tbh. I am EXCITED about Bernie, and others are too, hopefully. Nothing anyone can say can change that , for me at least.

(841 posts)... and up to now I had also passively resigned myself to voting for the "default" Hillary (after all, the choice these days always seems to be between a wimp and a wacko).
But now I will be enthusiastically supporting and voting for Bernie as long as he remains in the running for the Democratic candidacy. He simply towers above Hillary in political progressive thinking and political communication with the middle class. And all through the years he voted on the side of history EVERY SINGLE DAMN TIME. He is the one single candidate who can truthfully say to us, "I have nothing to regret." Go Bernie!

Exactly! His record is impressive.

You seem to have problems knowing when to voice your opinion and when not to (remember all your RW thoughts)
rational thought and ethics are what appeals to me as far as Bernie Sanders is concerned. Faith in some savior is a set-up for failure.
beware of irrational thought and behavior.

(56,829 posts)My agreement with that post goes to seeing "faith" as an excuse not to work. When one only has faith in some politician or other leader, one tends to assume they will carry the main burden of whatever needs doing.
Work is hitting the pavement or phones and getting other people involved, building a movement that has influence and will sustain the person being backed in their endeavors to accomplish shared goals.
Faith to often leads to disappointment, because who can live up to fantasy-based standards?
I think we see plenty of examples of that with the current administration. Way too many people were operating on faith instead of reality.
I am not saying that is a bar to supporting the candidate or to participating, just that it can be a weak basis to work from.
darkangel218

(14 posts)Even Bernie admits that he's a long-shot (though I think he'll do better than a lot of people expect). But even should he lose, his campaign will be important. His campaign can be the beginning of a movement within the democratic party to push the national discourse leftward and enact policies that actually reduce inequality and help 90% of Americans.
But that can only happen with hard-work and movement building from us.

Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: It is a personal attack. But I still love that Kali got to go into group aka The Cult of Bernie with hands down some of the nastiest posters on this board and make his feelings known about their behavior. Well done, Kali.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(9,086 posts)Sure, maybe Bernie has earned a bit of trust by being consistently awesome.
But talking about "faith" is just inviting people to say Bernie supporters are like a cult.
I wouldn't have faith in any politician.
TM99
(8,352 posts)The first definition given for the word faith is 'to have confidence or trust in a person or thing'.
Having faith in someone does not mean it is about religion, religious beliefs, messiahs, or cults of personality.
I have trust & confidence in Sanders because he is congruent and consistent. He has a proven track record of supporting the policies and principles that I know to be necessary for our day and age.
I will offer a more intense level of support for someone who earns my trust. I will do what I can do 'have their back'. I have volunteered to work on his campaign, so yes, I may literally one day stand by his side.
Have we all become so jaded by the New Atheist versus Fundamentalist religious believers culture wars that we can not use words about trust and metaphors of support without having to rationalize and explain them away?
Hell yes I have faith in Sanders!!!
