But now I will be enthusiastically supporting and voting for Bernie as long as he remains in the running for the Democratic candidacy. He simply towers above Hillary in political progressive thinking and political communication with the middle class. And all through the years he voted on the side of history EVERY SINGLE DAMN TIME. He is the one single candidate who can truthfully say to us, "I have nothing to regret." Go Bernie!

I think we are in agreement on the principle, anyway.

I was one of the first to see this group after it was created and "join" as it were, so I do hope I am included in the protective umbrella of safe haven for members.

My agreement with that post goes to seeing "faith" as an excuse not to work. When one only has faith in some politician or other leader, one tends to assume they will carry the main burden of whatever needs doing.

Work is hitting the pavement or phones and getting other people involved, building a movement that has influence and will sustain the person being backed in their endeavors to accomplish shared goals.

Faith to often leads to disappointment, because who can live up to fantasy-based standards?

I think we see plenty of examples of that with the current administration. Way too many people were operating on faith instead of reality.

I am not saying that is a bar to supporting the candidate or to participating, just that it can be a weak basis to work from.

Start counting at 1 (ME) and continue on.

This poster says having faith makes you a lazy supporter, depending on others.

Is that the BELIEF of this group? How is this motivating for our group members?

If you have a poster trying to divide us into rational vs faithful supporters causing friction amongst us, how in the world does this help in electing Bernie?

Even Bernie admits that he's a long-shot (though I think he'll do better than a lot of people expect). But even should he lose, his campaign will be important. His campaign can be the beginning of a movement within the democratic party to push the national discourse leftward and enact policies that actually reduce inequality and help 90% of Americans.

But that can only happen with hard-work and movement building from us.

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

"GMO loving bully" - personal attack on Kali.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed May 20, 2015, 05:16 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: This poster has issues, which multiple time outs have not diminished. Not sure what good hiding yet another OTT post will do, but I will vote to do so, nonetheless.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Not seeing it.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: It is a personal attack. But I still love that Kali got to go into group aka The Cult of Bernie with hands down some of the nastiest posters on this board and make his feelings known about their behavior. Well done, Kali.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: ah gee, I torn between darkangel218 saying they were leaving and leaving the post up since the alert was a tad silly...what to do, what to do. darkangel is annoying as hell, but this particular comment doesn't rise to the level of alerting imho.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Sure, maybe Bernie has earned a bit of trust by being consistently awesome.

But talking about "faith" is just inviting people to say Bernie supporters are like a cult.

I wouldn't have faith in any politician.

The first definition given for the word faith is 'to have confidence or trust in a person or thing'.

Having faith in someone does not mean it is about religion, religious beliefs, messiahs, or cults of personality.

I have trust & confidence in Sanders because he is congruent and consistent. He has a proven track record of supporting the policies and principles that I know to be necessary for our day and age.

I will offer a more intense level of support for someone who earns my trust. I will do what I can do 'have their back'. I have volunteered to work on his campaign, so yes, I may literally one day stand by his side.

Have we all become so jaded by the New Atheist versus Fundamentalist religious believers culture wars that we can not use words about trust and metaphors of support without having to rationalize and explain them away?

Hell yes I have faith in Sanders!!!

I have been a non-believer as far back as I can remember. I certainly did not associate the OP's use of the word faith as being religious or cultish.

That was a silly argument to use to poke at the OP.
