Getting to Know Jane Sanders, Wife of Bernie who Could be an Asset During his Presidential Run

Jane O'Meara and Bernie Sanders grew up 15 blocks from each other in Brooklyn, New York. They met in 1981, the night of Bernie's first Burlington, Vermont mayoral victory. The couple married in 1988 and have 4 children, 3 from Jane's first marriage to David Driscoll and a son together. She is nine years younger than Sen. Sanders.

Dr. Jane Sanders' broad work experience in Vermont includes positions with youth programs, as a community organizer and as a VISTA volunteer. In later employment she has been in the field of higher education and administration, serving as head of Vermont's Goddard College where she completed an undergraduate degree in social work and her doctorate. Jane was also the President of Burlington College from 2004-2011.

Since their early years together, Jane has been active in the Senator's policy work and continues to be involved, a key adviser in Bernie's political career, Robin Toher of the NY Times wrote in 2000.

The Senator must be quite familiar with the matter and has input from experts particularly regarding his decision to enter the presidential race recently. Let's hope the matter is resolved for all concerned. Smears are par for the course in this field especially unfortunately. Thanks for the post.

17. Again, this has been an issue for a while and I'm sure many professionals and plans

have been involved. When the matter is resolved it will help. As long as someone is paying attention, like now, the media spinners and opposition will continue. I am not qualified to speculate on how this financial affair will work out or any ramifications, that's up to the experts. In the meantime just leave it to them.

22. Same here, she looked so nice with him briefly yesterday before he spoke. What a

wonderful, successful event from what I saw- Bernie's thorough, passionate speech, the awesome setting, supportive speakers and guests, Big Ed and the festivities. A good sign! I'm sure we'll see and learn more about Jane over time.

I was prompted to look into her from seeing the lovely photo of the Sanders outside the capitol, and Bernie's recent light remark to the media (Andrea Mitchell?) how he wishes HRC's spouse could debate Jane, b/c she's pretty smart. It was a natural and cute reply to interviewers who always try to get him to talk about HRC.

on MSNBC recently about he'd like HRC's spouse to debate Jane, b/c she's pretty smart, prompted me to look into her more. Wonderful couple, obviously a union of hearts and minds; so nice to see. I also admire Dr. Jill Biden, professor at a NoVA college, teaching English I think. Very accomplished, hard working and attractive lady but one who might prefer to be out of the limelight, understandably.

25. That must be good attitude, genes and healthy living in VT b/c she's not a person

who's been pampered, quite the opposite. When I saw the photo of them outside the capitol, so obviously close I was curious to learn more. She looks forty maybe, for real. Actually I was thinking there was larger age gap from the photo and was pleased to read of the nine year difference.

Our mother had that- never aged, stunning natural beauty, gorgeous thick, rich red hair with incredibly good skin which can be unusual (clear, rosy, w/o freckles!), lovely figure. She was like Maureen O'Hara and Donna Reed, just classic. We're ok, but not so good; she loved us anyway-

I think he is so healthy in his mind and hopefully his body. All that generates good feeling aside from his wonderful policies. She looks like a charm, a perfect person for him to have at his side.
