Clinton attacks produce windfall of campaign cash for Sanders

By Karen Tumulty

Hillary Clinton’s new barrage against Bernie Sanders, the Democratic presidential primary opponent she has all but ignored through most of her campaign, is having an effect — though probably not the one she intended.

Sanders’s underdog campaign said it is seeing a surge of contributions as a direct result of the new attention it is getting from the Democratic front-runner, with money coming in at a clip nearly four times the average daily rate reported in the last quarter of 2015.

In its email appeals for money, the campaign accused the Clinton campaign of making “vicious and coordinated attacks” on Sanders’s health-care plan, which calls for a government-run system. Sanders’s strategists are also considering rolling out advertising beyond the early-contest states where it is airing spots now.

The former secretary of state and her team have stepped up their criticism of Sanders on a variety of fronts in recent days as polls have begun to show him edging even with her in Iowa — and, for the first time, looking competitive in a national poll. But the Clinton strategy may be backfiring in some ways.

“Thanks, Team Clinton,” Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said Wednesday afternoon.

When you're the wrong candidate for the times, you're the wrong candidate for the times. 2008 was her golden opportunity and she blew it. It came down to likeability in 2008 and she hasn't improved.

Making the connections, getting the money, voting for things that made her look "tough" at a time when Dems were often derided by the GOP as being soft on defense. She might have squeaked into office back in '08 if she'd spent more time doing the hard slogging of retail politics and stayed away from negative campaigning, but leopards don't change their spots. And now, it's too late for her. Too many people see how this country's become an oligarchy and too many are struggling. I fervently hope that Sanders gets elected this year because we're running out of time for a peaceful revolution, and history teaches us that the violent revolutions all too often end up with a different group of faces on the top of the heap but little real change. And always, the poor pay the heaviest price of violent upheavals.

And the saddest part of all of this is that we never would have come to this pass if the rich had been less greedy. When you've got a full belly and a warm house and some spare cash for extras and a vacation now and then, the distant rich are merely a target of envy. When you're worried about food, healthcare, housing, education, etc., the rich people who have lined their pockets at your expense become a target of anger.

Clinton is currently scheduled for twice as many Iowa TV ads for the final weeks before the Iowa caucus.

Bernie has made a point out of collecting a huge groups of small dollar donors. So every time the other side does something stupid like this, a simple email is good for a few million more dollars.

Please proceed, Mrs. Clinton...

Put on my hip waders, protective gear and FEMA disaster mitigation face mask to venture into the Hillary group. It's sparsely populated, but those stubborn souls remaining are in full court press to defend Chelsea's remarks. It's a bit of argle-bargle, i.e,. talking about the JEST of Sanders' plan:

"Be the jest of Sanders plan is that each state would run its own program." !?!?!?

"Hillary is right on health care."

Talk about doubling down on snake eyes -

Lots of smiley faces, rolling around on the floor laughing.

It's a sad and toxic place, as it richly deserves to be. All it's lacking is a Youtube link to a 3 man band playing Nearer My God To Thee as the lifeboats are launched.
