2. A minor correction for that chart...

It's 'metre, not metre and litre, not liter....

Unless it's some weird thing where those words are spelt differently in the US...

3. Liter is the preferred spelling in American English

There’s no difference in meaning between liter and litre. Liter is the preferred spelling in American English, and litre is preferred in all other main varieties of English

Meter as well.

4. "Meter," "liter" and "spelled" are all correct in the US. "Spelt" is not common usage in the

US, except as a reference to a form of wheat that is called "spelt."

5. Thanks, fsogol. I have been dreading the day when the US would convert.

However, that chart helps a lot. I do know how to flip the ruler to the centimeter side to measure. However, other than that, I'm hopeless, I am ashamed to say. Now, I have a handy cheat sheet.

6. And here I thought that Chafee's legion of fans on DU would ban me from his group for the snark.

I'm a mechanical engineer and do the occasional project in metric if a client wants (NASA) and don't have much trouble, however, I can look at a Imperial value (say, CFM of air in a room) and know if it is correct. If the value is displayed as l/s, that automatic check based on experience is gone.
