I just unsubscribed from Bernie emails and Twitter feed.

I have been on his list since 2016 but as soon as Joe Biden announced I have gotten official emails attacking Joe & Twitter responses saying if Biden gets the nomination they're doing a write-in.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Making it cheaper just to make products here at home than off shore 'em and import their products back here to sell cheaper. His tariffs would end this race to the bottom for cheaper labor. BTW...no other candidate did a weekly town hall for years so we could ask him any question long before Hillary or his decision to run for president which is why so many of us know where he stands as he has always been steadfast and dedicated to work for the people. Those of us who have followed him for years trust and love him and his policies. He is a uniter and will easily win the election if he becomes our candidate.

as we've seen with Trump's attempts to do this.

Politicians all over the country have been holding town halls for decades, some of which turn out well, others not so much.

Hillary's listening tours went all over the country. Bernie was a career politician years before Hillary became one. When did he do "weekly town halls" - after he went to DC in the early 90's? I hadn't heard anything about that.

I'm concerned that Sanders idea of "steadfast' is more of an indication of not wanting to listen to anyone who disagrees with him even when they have new information, and doesn't think he has anything to learn.

Emotional intelligence and the intellectual agility needed to process new information as it's received are basic characteristics needed for an effective POTUS.

159. Sanders's campaign was in the Mueller report surrounded by redcations from ongoing investigations
Wed May 1, 2019, 06:48 AM
May 2019

And the Russian trolls and bots on twitter have been pushing Bernie just as hard as they push Trump. His legitimate supporters don't seem to notice or realize they have been getting manipulated all this time into attacking, bashing and being overly critical and even at times dishonest about other candidates on social media. Those who didn't support him noticed it and that is why there is the level of animosity related to Sanders. He hasn't spoken up and that comes across as highly sketchy. I think as people who support him begin to see this same thing they begin to move to other candidates. There are plenty of better choices...ones that Russian bots and trolls aren't pushing.

For the record...if Bernie had ever actually come out and spoken to his supporters about how they were targeted then I think a lot of people would have given him the benefit of the doubt. He hasn't, though, and there is really only one reason that makes sense as to why he wouldn't. Ask yourself what that might be.

even if most of the post-primary "give us Bernie or it's Trump" crowd stay true. His total was only 42% of last time according to a recent poll, and I fully expect it to drop lower as more people look at him.

Interesting little note about donations to Sanders: Analysis of donations to our candidates by gender only have data for amounts over $200. But while most of the over-$200 women donors donated to a number of Democratic candidates to get them all nicely kicked off, only 2% of those who donated to Sanders did. All the rest of Sanders' donors donated only to him, but that means only 2% of the solid Democrats included him in the group they donated to.

Btw, they also found over 2/3 of those donors to Sanders are men.

to say it's decreasing. Any 2016 candidate would have same comparison. Has nothing to do with now. Reading only what justifies your already formed opinion is now reality. Most of us who support Bernie are used to the rock throwers petty inconsequential hits but have known him for years...years, and know what a good honest dedicated man he is. He set the table for most of the discussions we have today over policy. I don't want to go back to a small group of party elites decide who our candidates will be so I will still support our party's candidate, just like I and most other Bernie supporters did last time. Bernie won over a lot of Republicans who went back and voted for their candidate anyway but that is never mentioned here. AOC will one day face this same crowd "I've had it with her...it's just her ego, I'm so over her...most women didn't support her etc etc etc. Here I thought we were supposed to show respect and support our candidate's positives not bash them and call their supporters names or make ill founded conclusions based on our opinions. If I seem angry it's because this Bernie bashing goes on daily here...and only here. It needs to end. Find something positive to say or don't bother saying anything is going to be my model when talking about other candidates

He’s now joined Fox in demonizing the Clintons big time again, double-teaming with them the idea that this is all the Clinton deep state out to get him.

Looks like he may be starting to give up on picking up more Democratic voters and is chumming heavily for the crazy right.

There is the possibility, though, that this is genuinely how he interprets his falling numbers and liberal think tanks criticizing him. He seems to have genuine enmity toward the Clintons, and how else to explain Democrats’ otherwise inexplicable failure to admire him?

A valuable contribution -- until Democrats are able to pass our HR1's campaign finance reform -- which some of his competitors are already leaping on.

Of course, as you say, that's not the big legacy college history and poly sci students will be learning about. When Sanders is mentioned, it'll be in, or a footnote to, chapters about the Trump election and Putin's attempt to use him to bring down the U.S.

Biden is now, finally, giving the corporate elites hell after Bernie fought like hell to normalize such a clear-eyed approach.

I don't know what the content was of the Sanders campaign emails because no one above has bothered to reference any actual quotes. If his team isn't telling the truth then its dirty campaigning. If it's pointing out Biden's record on Iraq, corporate give aways, etc., then its democracy at work.

I'll vote for any Democrat, but none of us should be employing the same name-calling tactics as the man they claim is doing so –and without evidence.

Patchouli oil? Really? Bernie was in the trenches of the civil rights movement (with photographic evidence) AND the recent anti-corporate movements. He has fiercely pushed for Medicare for all. He's a passionate Jew from Brooklyn and wouldn't know Patchouli oil if it fell out of a Whole Foods gift package for Baby Boomers.

So of course it immediately focused Klieg lights on Sanders to see what he would do. Which was the only thing he could -- race to sign it to head off dramatized "Will Sanders sign???!" "How much would refusal hurt him?" commentary all over the media.

You know, if he keeps this pledge -- in spirit, not just in signature, he will lose that zealous "give us Bernie or it'll be Trump" quarter of his supporters. They joined him because they believed he would stick it to the Democrats, not try to talk them into voting for our nominee.

Also, how, as someone committed to electing a Democrat, would he draw the additional disappointed RW populists he's hoping will leave Trump for him? We all know they're not going to replace Trump with a loyal Democrat.

This is going to take many years to repair what he has already done. The courts are damaged for decades. People will die from lack of medical care and inability to pay for medications. Children will be traumatized by child separation. The education level will drop even farther. Our allies will need to be convinced we are acceptable.

But the environmental damage will be final.

So, I do not agree that four more years will accomplish anything positive.

Sadly, many of Sanders' supporters seemed "blithely uninterested in reckoning with the human cost of the political apocalypse" in 2016. Viewing "politics purely in terms of personal catharsis," ignoring how it affects the vast majority of Americans in practical ways, is just another form of political nihilism, or anarchism. extremist-leaning beliefs can't and/or won't learn as others do. They require profound delusion and personal dishonesty to sustain, the more extreme and/or immersed the less anchored to reality. The internet is not their friend. Or ours. Experts say extremism is growing on both left and right.

It's certainly been educating to watch the bizarre blindness to and detachment from the reality of what the right's doing. But even if we could somehow make them focus enough to really understand, it wouldn't stick.

I remember that an expert in extremism, after describing the striking similarities between right and left types in simple lay terms, moved on to a major difference, which was that RW extremists "hate everyone else" and LW "hate themselves." (Very simple. ) Whoever and whatever LW types identify with is despised, for some even loathed, and unfortunately that's us and whatever we do.

Sigh. Since they aren't going away, it's up to us to keep them in perspective and work around them.

51. What kind of attacks from the official campaign emails?
Tue Apr 30, 2019, 04:26 PM
Apr 2019

Are they irrational attacks or are they more tame standard criticisms we usually see during elections? They aren't calling for a write-in, are they?

I mentioned a few days ago the number of #bernieorbust tweets. No doubt some are legit people who I think are very misguided, but digging in some more I suspect there's an increasing number of those are highly suspicious. One thing I like to do is use the advanced twitter search to look up their first tweets. If an account was created in like 2010 and has zero tweets up until recently, and nearly all the tweets are divisive highly charged political tweets, then that raises some huge red flags. That doesn't mean it's coming from a troll farm in Russia, but it does make me suspect they are not acting in good faith. Occasionally, I've came across some accounts in which they totally switched "sides". I haven't seen one of those in awhile, though.

goal is to present a united front, and to persuade all Democrats and like minded Independents, even some Republicans to vote in 2020 for our alternative to rumpy. I found this discussion to be both troubling, from a unity to victory perspective, and discouraging ongoing efforts that do encourage rational, fact based discussion. My opinion as always.

I have no candidate preference at this time. If I had empirical evidence that Senator Sanders was the person to send the rump family packing in 2020, then I would support him in the primary. If reason continues to guide my selection, it could be that Biden (while not my choice for a candidate) is the one to beat tRump.

It seemed there was a dog whistle or sneer directed at Barack and/or Hillary in every one. His Medicare for All pitch especially annoys me as the unspoken subtext is "Obama's health legislation is horrible, let's ditch it and try mine." Well, we're seeing where that got him.

And the reason the ACA isn't all that it could be is because it was a compromise made in order to get some Republican votes. It left the insurance companies in place. I don't know about you but I'm not enthused about subsiding health insurance executives with millions of dollars in compensation and bonuses. That's just sucking money out of the system and not providing health care for anybody!

We can do better.

With a picture of a bird and at least three different links to send dollars. The first substantive line is:

If Bernie runs — we will have a presidential candidate who understands that health care must be recognized as a right, not a privilege, for every man, woman, and child in our country, regardless of their income.

With the implication that Barack, Joe, Nancy P and all the other Democrats who knocked out the PPACA didn't recognize health care as a right and accomplished nothing. So wrong, and it still makes me angry.

Wed May 1, 2019, 02:18 AM

I think Obama would have liked the ACA to be better, but felt he had to compromise if there was going to be any chance of passing any legislation at all. I suspect that was done with the expectation that it would be tweaked to improve it over time. Republicans have done the exact opposite, though. They really want to get rid of it. I wasn't entirely happy with the bill at the time, but in retrospect I think they probably did the best they could at the time.

And maybe this time we can come up with something better.

Improvements are not an indictment of the work of prior administrations. We 'stand on their shoulders' in the effort to move policy forward.

149. What's missing are the shoulders, i.e., Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act
Wed May 1, 2019, 02:28 AM
May 2019

all passed by Democrats. This is from the 2016 Dem platform:

ENSURE THE HEALTH AND
SAFETY OF ALL AMERICANS

Democrats have been fighting to secure universal health care for the American people for generations, and
we are proud to be the party that passed Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Being
stronger together means finally achieving that goal. We are going to fight to make sure every American has
access to quality, affordable health care. We will tackle the problems that remain in our health care system,

including cracking down on runaway prescription drug prices and addressing mental health with the same
seriousness that we treat physical health. We will fight Republican efforts to roll back the clock on women’s
health and reproductive rights, and stand up for Planned Parenthood. And we will tackle the epidemics of
substance abuse and gun violence, which each claim tens of thousands of lives every year. (pp. 30-31)

https://democrats.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/2016_DNC_Platform.pdf
............................
But if you listen to Bernie you wouldn't know any of that legislation had been passed and think we were all living in some eternal Pottersville that only Bernie wants to save us from. That's what makes me angry.

Mr. Sanders says a lot of good things, but there are multiple legitimate reasons for preferring someone other than him to be the Democratic Party nominee.

His refusal to back out of the race in 2016 after his victory became mathematically impossible cost him a lot of good will among Democrats. His tendency to be a member of the Democratic Party only when he's running for president is another point of contention.
