Good for him. He's seeing the big picture. Hats off if Warren, Booker, Harris or Sanders also prioritize the jobs-climate equation (the Green New Deal and its variants). We MUST simultaneously address the extreme wealth divide and our civilization-killing addiction to oil. We can only heal this country by taking such an integrated approach. FDR lives! Rachel Carson (Silent Spring) lives! Dr. Robert Bullard lives! (Dr. Bullard is the African American father of the environmental justice movement.)
Im running for president because Im the only candidate who will make defeating climate change our nations No. 1 priority.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee on Friday became the first major candidate in history to officially launch a White House bid centered entirely on combating climate change, entering a crowded field of Democrats vying to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020.
In a video that opens with shots of storm clouds gathering over the Seattle skyline, Inslee, 68, vowed to transition the nation to 100 percent renewable electricity and generate millions of good paying jobs in every community across America.

She will not take any donations from ultra rich donor class who are controlling the country. Those top 1% received lions share of tax cuts and other legislative favors.

(2,275 posts)...to what the Millenials already know: this planet is toast if we don't address global warming. Has Warren, whom I also prefer, made the Green New Deal an organizing vision? Her laudable economic policies need to be hitched to green infrastructure or her vision is only half-baked. Maybe she's already there, but I want to see the plan.
May we save ourselves from our foolish addiction to oil and shallow thinking.

(6,110 posts)it runs out, which it will sooner or later. It is just too cheap to pump out in places like Saudi Arabia and Iraq. I recall reading it costs Saudi $2/barrel of oil to pump out, some years back. Even if it is now $10, it is way cheaper than any other energy source. People world over will not give up their old gasoline cars. Electric cars are only good if the power plant uses solar or nuclear power. Otherwise we are just transferring the fossil fuels burned from the cities to the power plant location.
I was in China 3 years ago, and the smog there from burning coal is horrible. China was building 1 NEW coal fired power plant every week for 20 years. I think they have finally slowed that pace down because the smog situation in cities is embarrassing.
I won't visit my country of birth India, any more because the air quality is intolerable. We can make all fossil fuels illegal in United States, but unless the 3000 million people in China and India do the same, global warming here we come. You will niot believe how bad car traffic is in Mumbai & New Delhi.

(41,113 posts)dependence and gross neglect of the global climate crisis couldn't be clearer. Inslee's bold new entrance into the large field with so many promising candidates is another very promising development. And recently there have been more positive actions on the climate front involving determined young people whose lives and futures are at stake. So we'll see.

I am deeply troubled by a bill he signed concerning surrogacy. I worry about the potential for exploitation that I fear it will enable. This bill has me rethinking whether I can support him.

But I am having trouble setting aside his position on surrogacy. It may cost him my support and my vote.

Oh, how the media and others laughed and jeered. No one wanted to equate climate change with famine and territory fights etc.
I'm glad people aren't laughing any more.
Inslee is a great spokesperson for this extremely serious threat to the world.

(9 posts)is to impose massive taxes on the use of fossils fuel.
This means massively increased gasoline taxes and carbon emissions taxes.
The only way to change people's behavior is to make it hurt.
Oh and transition to nuclear energy.
He needs to make it very clear that all this is necessary.

(2,275 posts)will make it a better solution than coal, oil or nuckear. Those last three are already more expensive than solar when you calculate their longterm costs to the planet.
Solar, like universal healthcare, is LESS expensive than the old systems.
A general lack of education is ultimately what will kill us.
