Who Is the Most Electable Democrat?
May 2, 2019 at 1:56 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Phillip Bump: “The undercurrent in the swollen Democratic presidential primary field has become a near-audible rumble: Who can defeat President Trump?”

“It’s not an irrational way to approach the subject. It’s just .?.?. problematic. Why? Because electability has been a questionable indicator in the past and because it’s heavily colored by individual prejudices.”

Kyle Kondik: “Certainly Trump’s victory is a great argument against the idea that so-called electability can be discerned in advance.”
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

rebuild the blue wall...we have a very limited path...and who knows when or if we get Arizona, Texas, Georgia or North Carolina (got it in 08). If we look at Hillary's wins...even with Texas and no other state we are at 270 exactly. We could lose one point in one of the proportional states and lose. We need Arizona and another state for the win assuming we lose Texas...without the blue wall we are in big trouble. And the Senate makes me want to cry...so tough.

in the spring of 1991. That worked out fairly well.

https://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/04/a-brief-history-of-primary-polling-part-ii/

Mr. Clinton had very little support in the earliest polls in 1991, but quickly began to gain it once the field consolidated. Because this primary race was so unusual, we’ve also examined the poll numbers for the second half of 1991, not just the first half of the year. By late 1991, Mr. Clinton was polling at about 8 percent, ...

Right now I think the best fit for a sure win would be Jay Inslee or Michael Bennet--especially if they'd pick Kamala or Mayor Pete as Veep. The only way we could screw this up is to select a rabid left winger who would scare the bejesus out of everyone, or somebody who is too old or too gaffe prone. I love my birth-mate, Joe Biden, but I fear he fits the latter category. We ALL know who fits both categories!

...that the premise of the article in the OP is that such a question is the wrong way of looking at the matter – and then, the first few comments consist solely of people flatly asserting that, of course, their favored candidate is the “most-electable.” Didn’t they even bother reading the OP?
