Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf we rebuild the blue wall, the Republicans won't win the presidency in 20 or for years.
We will stop them and move the country left. Below is the 2016 presidential electoral college map showing what would have happened with a win in WI, PA and MI. I believe Biden can do this. Fired up and ready to go. But no matter who the candidate is victory is in the rustbelt.

(43,093 posts)Those are the only 4 states I might add. IA, MO, IN, and OH are simply a bridge too far this go-round I fear. Let's go with the first 3, plus Nebraska's 2nd District (Omaha area, as Trump barely won it in 2016) and Abrams would supercharge the POC turnout there. I agree with you on ME 2nd, I do not think we can de-Trump it, it's too rural and reactionary.
I say Abrams over Harris as you and I both agree that those Midwest states are key, and her executive order threat after 100 days (if not congressional action) on guns is going to really hurt her in those rust belt and southern states.
So my map would look like this (NE 2nd makes Rump fall under 200, which will truly make that fucker snap!)
Finally
here is a nightmare scenario
I will take your map, add NE 2nd, and take AWAY Wisconsin
Also, we have great shots at taking back the 2 tied Delegations in the House, Michigan, and Pennsylvania and flipping one seat in FL, which gives us the majority there too
IF that happens, the House delegations are 25 Dem Majority, and 25 Rethug Majority
there is also a chance the Senate ends up 50-50
now look at the EV Map (again, your map with WI going Rump, and us winning NE-2)
and the House delegations (each state get ONE vote, no matter the size)
are tied (that is a GOOD possibility of happening and remember the NEW House and NEW Senate Vote)
IF Wisconsin was not illegally gerrymandered, we would have 26 delegations. There are no other close ones.
and so is the Senate (who votes for VP)
you would have a complete deadlock
IF we do not have a tie in the Senate (and the Rethugs control it) say hello to President Pence
IF we somehow take the Senate back, say Hello to President Abrams
IF the Senate is tied
Say hello to President Pelosi (as we will surely retain the House)
IF we do not take back the delegations from MI, PA and Florida (I really think we take all 3 back), Trump wins (and even more crazy, if we DO have the Senate, Abrams would be his VP, lolol)
Let's all hope it does NOT end in a 269-269 tie
as if the worst case scenario (House and Senate tied) Trump will try a coup I fear IF Pelosi tries to take the POTUS
I also totally fear (IF the double tie is in place) Manchin will feel insane pressure (as WV will go for the Rethugs by 30 or 40 points again, it was 42 points in 2016) to flip and vote for Pence

(68,456 posts)Texas only...and lost a point in Maine...we would have 269 votes...it goes to the house. The Senate would elect the Vice President which would be a nothing job in this scenario.

(43,093 posts)26, we control 22, and two are tied. If nothing in that regard changes in 2020, and there is a 269-269 EV tie, Trump will get the exact bare minimum he needs to win (26 votes). Each state gets 1 vote, no matter how big or small.

(68,456 posts)important senate race is Arizona and Georgia for that matter. Ossoff is running. I think he has a chance statewide.

(43,093 posts)Beto maybe would help, or Julian Castro.
I just hope Kelly beats Trumper McSally in the Senate race.
I think Ossoff has a chance too, in GA, especially if Abrams is VPOTUS on the ticket. I am really interested to see if she jumps in the main race. She obviously is playing her cards very close to the vest.
Other possibilities for us in the GA Senate race are Teresa Tomlinson (she has declared), Sarah Riggs, Jason Carter, Michelle Nunn, and Kasim Reed. Sally Yates also declined to run, she would have been a strong candidate as well.

(52,152 posts)It would be a tough win for us with neutral seats (we had a majority under a slightly favorable gerrymander) but it would be doable in a good year.

(1,898 posts)Abrams is intriguing and I concur that, with her on the ticket, Georgia most definitely would be in play.

(2,208 posts)For example, Warren is a senator from Massachusetts, but as an Oklahoma native her cultural/regional appeal reaches across the region called Greater Appalachia, stretching from West Virginia to Oklahoma. She would make a potent addition to the slate as a vice-presidential candidate for that alone, never mind her strong stand on economic issues for working Americans.
My candidate, Cory Booker, has incredible credentials on societal issues important to African Americans and Latinos. When he speaks to these concerns, as he did in his CNN town hall, he is at his best and is a compelling candidate. He would similarly balance a ticket wanting to strengthen its appeal to minorities.
Also, there is something to be said for putting the Nominee and the runner-up on the ticket together to ensure bringing the party together. The republicans often do this. At the very least I think the vp slot should at least be offered to a runner-up to assuage their supporters and ensure party unity.

Theres no good reason to assume US politics gets locked in stone.

(68,456 posts)believe we can retake it and hold it...now eventually we will get more states...like Arizona, Texas and Georgia but that has never happened in recent years so...the blue wall is our best option...you have to look at your situation realistically. The map does not favor us. The Senate map is enough to make you bang your head against the wall it is so bad for us.
