O'Rourke holds double-digit lead on Trump in head-to-head matchup: CNN poll

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/441950-orourke-holds-double-digit-lead-on-trump-in-head-to-head-matchup-cnn-poll

Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) leads President Trump by 10 points in a hypothetical general election matchup, according to a new CNN–SSRS poll.

The survey released Thursday shows O’Rourke with support from 52 percent of registered voters, compared with Trump's 42 percent. Two percent of voters said they wouldn’t support either candidate, and 4 percent said they had no opinion.

O'Rourke held the widest lead over Trump among other Democratic presidential candidates who were included in the potential matchup.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Vice President Joe Biden tied for second place behind O'Rourke, with each leading Trump by 6 points.

RCP only has three in the past month, including this one. Beto was +6 a month ago in another poll, so this may not be that far off, especially factoring in the high MoE.

That means that not only would more people vote FOR Beto...less people WOULD vote for Trump than any other candidate. This poll also does not include young voters at all. Beto was able to increase youth turnout by 500% in Texas. He can do that nationally too. If that happens...it's a freaking bloodbath for Republicans everywhere because of the down ticket impact.

We have a long time for this to sort out, have to take all the early polls for what they are, not just this one.

If you study previous years, there can be drastic changes as we move forward.

Certainly Beto is young, dynamic, well spoken, and is a viable contender.

It will be fascinating to see who will emerge in the end. I do think we should have a woman on the ticket.

Personally, I think it's past time for a generational change in our political leadership.

The political and economic conditions people face today aren't the same as they were 30 and forty years ago.

Candidates, like Beto, that have come of age politically in the current era of precarious employment and erosion of our civil liberties by the rethugs are exactly whom we need to deal with today's challenges.
