Kansas Democratic Party ends caucuses

Last edited Sat May 4, 2019, 10:48 AM - Edit history (1)

This is great news https://www.omaha.com/news/politics/kansas-democratic-party-joins-most-regional-states-in-ending-caucuses/article_298ad9ca-23aa-539f-8e3f-88d440c9e8ac.html

Like Nebraska, Kansas will no longer award delegates to Democratic presidential candidates via caucuses.

The state’s Democratic Party announced the decision Thursday.

It will switch to a party-run primary a year from Thursday — May 2, 2020. With caucuses, voters gather in a place and discuss the candidates, as opposed to a primary, in which voting is done privately like in a general election.

sanders won 67.9 of the delegates in Kansas in 2016.

for the presidency. I see that as a good thing. As much as I enjoyed the caucus and convention system here in Minnesota, I'm glad to see it go. Primaries reflect voter sentiments much better, as was demonstrated in 2016 in MN.

Fantastic! But I'm sure the caucus bullies aren't so happy. Still... this is great news for those who had otherwise been shut out of the caucus process, and for those who still respect the sanctity of the SECRET BALLOT.

but that isn't it.

They are awful to impossible for the elderly or disabled to attempt.
They are impossible for many working people to attend. Not everyone gets weekends off you know.
They are impossible for night shift workers.
They are nearly impossible for single parents to attend, or for both parents with very young kids to go to.
If you are ill that day, sorry! No vote for you!

and so much more
