Little example of Mark Penn's work at Fox News

Mark Penn: Trump is not a dictator, Nadler is. Our political system is being weaponized against itself

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/mark-penn-trump-nadler-dictator-barr-house-hearing

The Harvard-Harris Poll Scam

On Dec 15, Mark Penn, the longtime political operative who is co-director of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll, declared in a piece published by The Hill (and reproduced in various ways Real Clear Politics, Fox Insider, and numerous right-wing and conspiracy theory sites) that Mueller, FBI face crisis in public confidence ! [I added the exclamation point to the headline in The Hill]. That such a crisis in confidence is what the Trump administration and some Trump-loyalist members of Congress have been claiming is — or at least should be — occurring does not of course mean that the Harvard-Harris poll, if it had actually shown such a crisis were occurring among those it surveyed, would have been wrong.

But a look inside the poll reveals something well, let’s just say a little bit off. Confession: although I follow politics, elections, and polls closely, I am by no means an expert on polling methodology. On the other hand, I am not an expert in wildlife, but I can tell when there is a skunk nearby. Before I get into the poll’s actual and alleged findings, let me acknowledge the impressive academic positions of those who have associated with Mark Penn in producing it.

According to the Harvard-Harris Poll homepage, The co-directors of the poll are Stephen D. Ansolabehere — Professor of Government & Director, Center for American Political Studies, Harvard University and Mark J. Penn — Visiting Lecturer, Harvard University & Managing Partner, The Stagwell Group. The site also credits Dritan Nesho — Fellow, Harvard Institute for Quantitative Social Science & CEO of HarrisX.

WTF is the "Harvard-Harris Poll," anyway?

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/2/21/1636308/-WTF-is-the-Harvard-Harris-Poll-anyway

I’m sure we’ve all been besieged by this barrage of information purporting to come from the “Harvard-Harris Poll.” Headlines like Poll: Americans overwhelmingly oppose sanctuary cities, and Poll reveals majority of Americans want Democrats to work with Trump, and Harvard Poll: Americans Brimming With Confidence on Jobs, Economy are drawing rapturous responses from the likes of Kellyanne Conway and Rush Limbaugh. According to one Hill article, “Harvard-Harris Poll is a collaboration of the Harvard Center for American Political Studies and the Harris Poll.” Its “co-director” appears to be Mark Penn, apparently of Hillary Clinton 2008 fame. The “Harvard-Harris Poll” offers a lot of slick graphics to go with its snazzy numbers, but lacks that most elementary of internet accoutrements: a website.

So I looked for information about the “Harvard-Harris Poll” on the Harvard Center for American Political Studies website. Not a peep about this epoch-making collaboration. The same is true of the Harris Poll website, which looks like it might have died last month. I also checked to see if the Hill itself had announced the rollout somewhere along the line, but no dice. The "Harvard-Harris Poll” came online with no fanfare and just spouting some seriously strange looking numbers. I can’t believe that a site of the Hill’s quality has been catfished. I know for a fact that Mark Penn exists. But I can’t escape the feeling that something hinky is going on here. Somebody please clue me in.

Similar to Rasmussen, though their bias is more pronounced. Neither is terribly reliable.

As for Sanders' numbers, Quinnipiac (A- on 538) has him at 11%, so his numbers here may not be an outlier. Not good news, though it is, of course, still very early.

Their methodology is sound but it is C+ rated by 538 mainly because they find willing participants by phone and then direct them to a web form to answer questions. (No telephone interview)
