Read the linked article! I'll highlight some passages, but the piece itself is definitely worth reading before posting a reply!

I found these passages especially pertinent to our discussions and the tone of those discussion on DU:
"In many ways, Sanders' increasing influence among Democrats raises a set of challenges for Biden in navigating a party that has shifted to the left since he last ran for office. But in other ways, Bernie's candidacy could help Biden stand out amid a field that Mr. Trump broadly paints as socialists. Biden seems to have identified the latter dynamic, and is already running something of a general election-style campaign against the president.
Yet Biden and Sanders are competing for similar voters, particularly those in the Midwest and Rust Belt. And allies from both camps say the two have a valuable authenticity factor that will resonate. Early polls show some overlap. A Morning Consult poll found that Biden and Sanders supporters named the other as their second choice. And a Des Moines Register/CNN survey of Iowa voters found similar results."
Imagine that! In the real world, regular people, people in key swing states, who support Biden name Sanders as their second choice and Sanders supporters likewise name Biden as their second choice!
Ok... I'll go there... Biden-Bernie 2020?
Food for thought, eh?

(25,470 posts)Not sure that's an accurate assessment. If this were true, he wouldn't be hemorrhaging support to Biden and others.
The latest Quinnipiac poll (rated A- by 538) has him at 11%. He may have influenced the party in 2016 (though, the extent of that is up for debate), but that influence and his popularity seem to have waned significantly.
It's not surprising that supporters of the two overlap, but much of that could simply be that they're the two front-runners and the two candidates with the best name recognition at this point in the process.

(30,736 posts)Bernie is losing support. Democrats who supported him last time like Warren and Mayor Pete this time.
This article made me LOL.

some Trump voters that will be voting Dem next time... I see them as the "shake up the system" voters. They don't watch cable news or join groups like DU. The aren't stupid, but they have jobs and don't follow politics. The Deplorables adore Trump and won't change...
"Biden/Bernie"? I don't think that will ever happen. I don't even think "Biden-Warren" is likely, although Biden would definitely pick a woman - if he makes it to the end.

(2,208 posts)But I feel more of the Trump base is reachable than many people think.
There are the hardcore racists, they will never leave Trump, that's true.
But a lot of the remainder are white working class people that have been hurt by the economy and feel abandoned by the system, the so-call economic populists.
Trump didn't create those economic populists, he just ran out front of the parade and steered them to his dark side. I think a lot of those people are reachable by candidates who speak to their very real concerns.

(6,228 posts)No way. Biden/Harris is a winner. For those who don't understand why Biden is popular, it's because they want normalcy. Then the VP has to be a strong progressive Dem woman. Harris is that woman. We have never had a woman VP. Then she would be aligned to be president.

(3,256 posts)Bernie is detested by over 70% of Democrats. He will not go far this time thanks to the awareness of what happened in 2016 and also a lot of the undemocratic caucuses have been replaced by primaries.
Biden will choose Harris, Beto or Mayor Pete as his running mate.

huh? What happened to your call for party unity to defeat Trump?
Ok, maybe you have a link to something factual to back up your claim that "Bernie is detested by over 70% of Democrats."
Would you please post it?

(2,531 posts)push voters in open primaries to vote for Bernie, I think it's the right thing for Biden to try to appeal to those voters.

(4,494 posts)Biden reaches the center-right types who disliked Trump, but hated Clinton more. Sanders appeals to the anti-Establishment types, be they "drain the swamp" or "burn it down".
