The Conspiracy Against Bernie Sanders

First, let me say I have many friends who are Bernie supporters here in Florida.

Lately, they have been getting mad at me when I put on Facebook news reports about how much Biden is ahead of Sanders in various opinion polls.

In short, they have said (a) the polls are biased (b) the polls were done incorrectly (c) it is all fake news (d) it is all propaganda, and (e) there is a conspiracy against Sanders on the part of Democrats who are trying to defeat him.

Most of these people are carrying over their frustrations from 2016 and they still believe Bernie was cheated out of the nomination by the Evil Democratic Party. (which by the way is demonstrably false)

I have analyzed over 10 different national and state polls showing Biden with huge leads (all at least 20% or more) and come up with a conclusion.

If there is a conspiracy against Bernie Sanders on the part of Democrats, it is because Democrats in general don't like Bernie Sanders very much.

And this conclusion is reflected in the poll results. The carryover from 2016 is that your average Democratic primary voter is still very unhappy with the campaign that Bernie ran against Hillary.

Bernie is not even a Democrat, and Democrats know this, and the vast majority of them are not comfortable enough with him to turn over leadership of the party to him.

Democrats in general are not socialists. And many of my friends who like Bernie are not really Democrats either.

So I would suggest Bernie supporters look at the truth as it is today: It's not a real conspiracy, it's just a general agreement among Democratic voters to look for "anybody but Bernie."

This could change over the next year or so, but for now I wish my Bernie-supporting friends would just stop their damn whining and see what is really going on. Bernie has a LOT of work to do to win a Democratic Party nomination for president.

And the more he attacks Democrats the less of a chance he has.

He never appealed to me, and I resented his treatment of Hillary. No Hillary this time so it will be harder for him to gain the momentum

Your headline is exactly what I was thinking. I know that attitude is rife among his supporters. And he seems to do nothing to tamp it down. Which is my biggest problem with him - IMO he is no leader. He has potential to be a demagogue, but not a leader. And that's sad, because he has proposed some good policy positions.

a Democrat. Sanders and his followers all seem to think he deserves to be gifted with the nomination because reasons. Sanders criticizes Democratic candidate but whines loudly when he gets scrutiny and pushback.

sounds like irrational Trump supporters when talking about media's treatment of T...

Bernie is not a Democrat... should not be running in the Dem Primaries

I personally like Bernie, personally agree with policies... but want him to keep his job in the Senate

I honestly didn't expect it. At the same time, I believe the polls are an accurate display of our current moment. That is what these polls are measuring.

Now to make a larger extrapolation from the polls that goes more toward an opinion being derived from them. Those left supporting him are the more hard core supporters. They are those who like Stein and are into Nina Turner and the like. They are not about party or coalition building. They are the most vocal and oppositional group from the past. That is what these low poll numbers tell me about what we are seeing with his scorched earth campaign. He is now simply trying to hold that group.

This is Trumpian in nature: the polls are rigged; fake news, fake news; propaganda; and THE CONSPIRACY!!

It's a wonder the word 'coup' isn't thrown in for good measure.

If Senator Sanders' supporters think this sort of thing helps him, they need to go home and take a lo-o-o-g nap.

They might also consider that a man who goes out of his way to criticize and demean the Democratic Party may find himself in an uncomfortable position when running to lead said party, as in little support. Being a deliberate outsider and harsh critic has its downsides. Who knew????

and your facebook page experience is observed here as well.

It is an anger driven campaign and such campaigns need something to be angry about. If the anger was directed at Trump and republicans it would be one thing but anger directed at Democrats is counterproductive.
