Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumNearly two dozen Democrats want to be president. Only two have a climate change plan.
A bit early to say nobody else has a climate plan yet, but this was the article in today's Guardian....
Of the nearly two dozen Democrats running for president, only two campaigns have so far laid out deadlines for transforming American life to slash the pollution that is warming the planets climate.
The worlds scientists warn that governments have about 11 years to put in place strategies to cut emissions from power plants, cars, buildings, factories and land use. Once the next US president takes office, they will have nine years.
Passing large-scale climate legislation or writing new regulations for industry could take years, even if it is the next presidents primary priority. Any new administration will need to enter office with a detailed proposal and timeline to make a dent in the countrys share of climate pollution, experts agree.

Fortunately, many experts in climate, environmental, ag, water, energy sciences ran for Congress as Democrats specifically to work on these crises from inside and are now waiting for a Democratic president and senate to hit the ground running.
Thats where WE come in of course.

Not taking money from fossil fuel interests is something that all of them should do.
From the article:
Sanders has signed a pledge to refuse donations from fossil fuel interests, but other prominent Democrats have not, including New Jersey senator Cory Booker, California senator Kamala Harris and former vice president Joe Biden.

(4,494 posts)To deal with global warming, you have to change the attitude of the world, particularly China and India, the two largest developing nations. But in order to do that, to have any credibility, you have to begin here in the United States by capping emissions, increasing renewable fuels, establishing a national renewable portfolio standard, requiring better fuel economy for automobiles. I would cap emissions at 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050 and set a national RPS of 20 percent. I would announce an executive order that the federal government would not purchase one single automobile for its fleet that gets less than 40 miles to the gallon. And I would not build a single solitary federal project without it being a green project. That would have the effect of getting states to do the same thing, and that would create a pot of somewhere between a third and a half a trillion dollars that would be a lure to every major business in America to go green.
