(58,785 posts)the duty to represent the membership. We may see more of this pattern as Sanders actual approval is seen to have tanked.
The national nurses united union is led by a small clique of radical activists who are longtime supporters of Sanders himself and play dirty politics on his behalf. They are even opposing the Democratic Partys plans to improve the ACA for political reasons. Somehow I doubt they represent the over 150,000 nurse members, by far most of whom are more devoted to patient care than being part of a socialist revolution.
Best to keep these in mind and wonder in case leaders of any other unions endorse Sanders.

(16,950 posts)totally above board. I recall they tried to get a congressman recalled and it was for completely bogus reasons. They submitted a wish list for M4All that didn't address the costs, and then tried to recall the politician who had to reject their proposal for their failure to include costs. Very dirty stuff and totally bogus complaints about "establishment". Thanks for illustrating this further. I recall reading many informed comments about them after articles in the L.A. area and California papers, and people were very aware of their dirty tactics.
edit to add:

"A grassroots effort to recall Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon over his decision last year to shelve a single-payer healthcare measure has sputtered, according to organizers."

(58,785 posts)but its certainly in line with behaviors I have read about. One of the activists was head of the 90,000 member California nurses union that joined with the others to form the NNU.
Time magazine had a whole series of articles about them and their relationship with Sanders in 2016.

(58,785 posts)This time I notice, close as they've been to him in the past, they're claiming not to endorse anyone yet. May have gotten burned by a little too much spotlight in 2016.
For 2020 the NNU has issued a statement on their endorsement process -- including of course assessment of membership preferences -- and their intent to create a mass movement on critical issues. They're redoubtable activists with overall admirable goals if pursued honorably with good judgement and principles, but that's the quickly identifiable problem on closer look at them.

Sanders' choice to join with the hostile power of the right to make repeal (plus eventual replacement) of the ACA, instead of continued expansion and evolution, centerpiece of a presidential campaign in 2015 has never been properly examined under that spotlight. If MfA were socialized, that would provide a reason. But it's not, it's a variation on the same economic model as the ACA.

(270 posts)"When hes not doing campaign rallies, though, Biden has been doing some other stuff, like holding his first fundraiser at a mansion owned by the Comcast executive who supervises lobbying operations for the giant telecom company. Comcasts lobbying division, in turn, works with the hugely influential American Legislative Exchange Council, which writes right-wing legislationincluding right to work, stand your ground and voter-ID lawson behalf of Republican state legislators. A canned quote from the Comcast exec who hosted Bidens fundraiser actually shows up in a press release on ALECs website, while the New York Times recently wrote that Comcasts relationship with organized labor is often strained and said it has largely managed to fend off efforts by groups like the Communications Workers of America to organize its employees."
