As Biden predicts a shorter race, rivals dig in for long fight

From hiring to messaging, recent moves by 2020 hopefuls telegraph preparations for a sustained nomination battle.

WASHINGTON — Slow your roll, Joe.

That’s the message several of former Vice President Joe Biden’s rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination are sending with their recent campaign moves.

“This field is going to be winnowed out pretty quickly,” Biden, the current front-runner, told reporters in Los Angeles this week. “...It’s going to work its way through relatively quickly for all of us.”

But the rest of the field is offering fresh evidence that it is preparing for a long nomination fight.

We need to win, no matter what. If our candidates have to spend all of their money in the primary, the GOP doesn't, so they start running against us way earlier with lots of money. WE NEED TO WIN!

2. He is right...funding will dry up and as it becomes clear after voting begins who has a chance and

who doesn't. No point in staying in if there is no chance. I think based on some polls that his lead will be big enough that no candidate except Biden will have a mathematical road to the nomination.

4. Its going to be over by the end of March. Super Tuesday winners will run out the others.

There likely will only be a few left after that. Unless each Super Tuesday state is won by a different candidate, and i dont see that happening.
In a way, its not a bad way to go. The sooner a nominee is known, the sooner money can be saved for the General.

The sooner the better. We need to take on Trump not cripple our candidate with fake Demonstrations and picket line...Right wing stories...The truth is that in 16 some supposedly on our side crippled our candidate with a barrage of negative stories that ended in Comey being enough to cause her to lose a race so close I would call it an electoral college tie...clearly she won the popular vote.

7. Actually, it's not up to any of the candidates.

It's the voters in each state who will determine how long this all lasts. Individual candidates will do their best to attract attention and support but, in the end, we'll be able to follow how they're doing in the polls.

Right now, at least, Joe Biden appears to be assembling a great deal of voter support, compared to the other candidates. That's probably why he's feeling confident.

Personally, I think we'll all know who the nominee will be on March 4. The rest will just be confirmation.
