Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJoe was a great sidekick and confidante for President Obama.
That said, the world has moved on past, VP Biden. The singularity and immediacy of climate change, especially considering the time consuming environmental protections repairs needed after the 45 rampage, necessitates someone with a deep, up-to-date understanding of what our next generations are facing and the will to make our planet their top priority.

Shame on them for spewing this garbage

(8,144 posts)he would be well-able, if elected to work on climate change along with other world leaders, among whom he has respect and stature.
I would expect that he will draw expert advisors.
P.S. He was not merely a side-kick to Obama. In fact, Obama benefitted from his counsel.
And, yes, rather early to demand a full plan. The best plans are coordinated with many other people and entities.

(92,136 posts)people can decide if the "world has moved on past Biden"
ALL the Democratic candidates running are for fighting Climate Change and the Paris Accords. However, when you have Bill McKibben, who is part of the Justice Democrats, this comes as no surprise. It is also no surprise that he is a strong supporter of Sanders for 2020, so who would he go after, the DEMOCRAT that currently is the biggest threat to Sanders getting the nomination, Joe Biden
Here are some of Biden's positions:
Set out vision for young people to deal with global warming.
Unprecedented investment in renewable energy.
Cause of global warming is clearly Man-made.
Supports cap-and-trade for greenhouse gases.
Make every automobile sold be a flex-fuel automobile.
Voted against the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
Voted YES on tax incentives for energy production and conservation.
Voted YES on addressing CO2 emissions without considering India & China
Voted YES on removing oil & gas exploration subsidies.
Voted YES on factoring global warming into federal project planning
Voted YES on disallowing an oil leasing program in Alaska's ANWR.
Voted YES on reducing oil usage by 40% by 2025 (instead of 5%)
Voted YES on banning drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
and I could go on, because there is a lot more, but shame on Bill McKibben, and the Sanders campaign for pushing this kind of garbage implying that Biden is out of touch with environmental issues.
It is early in the campaign, and things may change, but these kind of tactics coming out of the Sanders campaign, and make no mistake about it, McKibben's is part of the Sanders campaign, so far appears not to have gained much traction, because I think people are much wiser today, and realize when someone's record is being misrepresented and distorted

In President Obama's words..
In A Surprise Send-Off, Obama Awards Biden Presidential Medal Of Freedom
snip//
Calling the former longtime Delaware senator "the best vice president America's ever had" and a "lion of American history," Obama gave his White House partner the surprise award in an emotional ceremony, initially billed as a farewell.
After extolling the job that Biden has done, Obama ended it with the unexpected news that he was giving the vice president the nation's highest civilian honor, with distinction a designation most recently given to President Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II and Gen. Colin Powell.
"To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self-regard, and to live life fully," Obama said.

Throughout the ceremony it was evident not just how close the two men were but how close their families and staffs had become, and Obama said his "family is honored to call ourselves honorary Bidens."

Transcript of President Obama's speech..
He fought to make college more affordable and revitalized American manufacturing, as the head of our middle-class taskforce. He suited up for Our Cancer Moonshot and giving hope to millions of Americans touched by this disease.
He led our efforts to combat gun violence. And he rooted out any possible misappropriations that mightve occurred. And as a consequence, the recovery act worked as well as just about any large- scale stimulus project has ever worked in this country. He visited college after college and made friends with Lady Gaga
Behind the scenes, Joes candid honest council has made me a better president and a better commander in chief. From the Situation Room, to our weekly lunches, to our huddles after everybody else has cleared out of the room, hes been unafraid to give it to me straight, even if we disagree.
In fact, especially, when we disagree. And all of this makes, in my belief, the finest vice president we have ever seen. And I also think he has been a lion of American history.
The best part is, hes no where close to finished. In the years ahead as a citizen, he will continue to build on that legacy internationally and domestically. Hes got a voice of vision and reason and optimism and love for people and were gonna need that that spirit and that vision as we continue to try to make our world safer and to make sure that everybodys got a fair shot in this country.

So all told, thats a pretty remarkable legacy, an amazing career in public service. It is, as Joe once said, a big deal.
Much More..

(17,600 posts)For the best approach to environmental issues, sure, we need someone with a wonderful, deep understanding, etc.
But even more, we need the best person who can get elected.
THE COUNTRY HAS GONE BACKWARDS SINCE OBAMA!
The very first thing we need to do, is STOP MOVING BACKWARDS.
