Biden Has Two Huge Advantages That No Other Candidates Have

Last edited Mon May 13, 2019, 10:57 AM - Edit history (1)

1. Only Biden was part of the Obama Administration. No other Dem. candidate has or can get that kind of halo effect for their candidacy.

2. Biden likely will be a one-term president. This means Dems who want a woman and/or a minority candidate can be patient and look forward to that in 2024. Plus, it's almost assured Biden will pick a woman and/or a minority VP running mate.

Biden is clearly the lowest risk candidate for Dems to nominate. And he is also perceived to be the candidate most likely to end the nightmare of the Trump presidency.

All of this adds up to Biden having the best chance to become the Dem nominee with these advantages no other candidate has.

3. I hope Democrats snap out of it and realize

that they are letting never Trump Republicans pick the Democratic nominee.

Food for thought...

7. I believe there will be some "NEVER TRUMPERS" who will vote for Biden. That does NOT equate

to "Never Trumpers" PICKING our candidate. Not at all.

15. Nonsense.

Nobody pays attention to the never-Trump Republicans. You think they're influencing half of the Dem electorate? lol, no.

4. Biden has not said he would not run for a second term; in fact he said the opposite.

No presidential candidate is going to promise beforehand to limit him/herself to one term; however, because of his age it's pretty likely that he won't run again. Whoever ends up as his running mate would have a real advantage in 2024.

10. +1

Though I wouldn't want him to rule out a 2024 run (even privately) if he wins in 2020. He will be almost 82 by election day 2024, but I think it should be a lot more clear about his performance/health as well as the political climate come 2023 on what would be best for him/the country. If he's still sharp/energetic and coming off two successful years, he shouldn't necessarily limit himself.

I also kind of like the idea that if his reelection seems likely come 2023, he could win reelection in 2024 and possibly step down in early 2027 (if necessary/desired), setting up his VP to complete his term and run in '28/'32 for a 10 year stint leading the country.

5. Biden has said he's running for two terms. And both Warren and Castro were part of the Obama admin.

6. "Only Biden has made clear that he will be a one-term president." - Nope...

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Friday said he would not commit to serving only one term if he is elected president.

Biden made the comment in an appearance on ABC's "The View," when the Democratic contender was pressed on concerns about his age and speculation he could announce a pledge of serving just one term.

Biden, 76, flatly said "No," when asked by the hosts if he would commit to serving only one term, going on to joke that he could, however, be forced to serve only four years by voters.

8. I'm sure your #2 advantage will make everyone on DU, especially women & minorities, just thrilled

that they'll have to be patient and wait until 2024 for Dems to pick "a woman and/or minority candidate" because "it's almost assured Biden will pick a woman and/or a minority VP running mate." Good luck with that.

9. Why is it "almost assured Biden will pick a woman and/or a minority VP running mate?"

What evidence do you base that on?

17. The politics he plays are the safe kind. He's aiming to reassure white working class males

that he's looking out for them, and he's also aiming to get former Trump voters' votes. I don't see Harris appealing to those groups and I don't think he will either. He likes to say he is a "return to normalcy." If he gets the nomination, I think he'll pick someone uncontroversial, someone safe.

12. I REALLY like that he doesn't piss on the Democratic party with divisive rhetoric.

Clearly, he realizes that it's not a good strategy to denigrate the party while simultaneously asking its loyal members for their time volunteering, for their money and donations, and for their vote.

I think that BS is missing the mark in that regard. Also, his choice hiring Jill Stein loving (and voting) people to his campaign sends a very negative and divisive message.

All of this adds up to Biden having the best chance to become the Dem nominee with these advantages no other candidate has.
I believe so... and your observation/prediction of who he's likely to choose for a running mate matches my own thoughts about that as well.
