(37,648 posts)and call up that humor gene inside. It was a little joke, based on nothing but humor. No intent to insult anyone.
I also don't see the tweets as representing a massive decline for Sanders. It's that big poll that shows him far behind Biden. Like historically behind.
It's notable if he's declining in favor among the younger people, but that's not the high-voting-probability demographic. Sanders has never, to my knowledge, been that high among the 45+ age crowd. That's the crowd that actually reliably votes. And the Af. American vote (particularly female) is critical for some elections. Sanders never polled high for that demographic.
So I never saw him as being to win any general election, without those key demographics in his corner.
Frankly, I'm not crazy about any of the candidates. There's no Pied Piper there for me. I'm in a key older reliable-voter demographic. I think people my age and a bit younger are just comfortable with the old shoe, Biden. No more angry tweets. No more bizarre plans to change everything. Smiles and jokes and pleasantries, but with experience. Family man. No more cozying up to Putin while insulting our allies. Nice, normal, politician Biden. The old comfy athletic shoes in the closet. (But given a real choice, Biden wouldn't be the one I'd choose.)

(2,113 posts)Supporting Beto this time. I see it all over social media. I think that is happening because Beto has that similar charismatic appeal and he is still progressive enough to be appealing on that front. Beto also offers a message of unity which people really like. I actually think that if Beto gets some fair and accurate media coverage instead of all the baseless hit jobs that he is likely to peel off even more of Sanders' support.

(28,340 posts)if he's going to move forward, he has to figure out how to get past it.
I have a serious soft spot for Beto, having spent a few very happy years in El Paso - but his message communication and damage control have been pretty lackluster. He needs to do better to break out, let alone take on Trump. Time will tell soon enough whether he can show those skills and turn it around.

(700 posts)We are starting to eat our own and fall right into the conservatives playbook!
Bernies #s fall among a certain demographic and we cant wait to get out that news. Beto is rumored to be restarting his campaign. Can anyone beat Biden? Is Biden not green enough?
I get with 20+ people running for Prez we need to find separation amongst our preferred candidates. But we are all Dems here and our #1 goal is to take back the Presidency and send Trump packing and off to prison. Granted, some fighting amongst us family members is healthy, but my fear is that we are going to have an all-out battle where we become the Susan Sarandons of 2016!
Lets ban together, folks. Support our candidates but be positive. We need 2020!
Go Dems!

(145,176 posts)sanders is not trying to win a majority of the party but wants to get to the convention with 30% of the delegates. That is less likely now
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/5/15/1857658/-If-Bernie-loses-support-among-youth-what-s-left
However, what happens if he cant hold that core? This isnt 2016, with a binary choice between Bernie and a demonized establishment Democrat. This is a rich field, with credible candidates representing just about every key party constituency. There are candidates just as liberal as Bernie, yet not as polarizing. So would Bernies core supporters stick with him as they became better aware of this amazing field? Apparently not, according to the latest Morning Consult primary poll.
Sanders on the decline with 18-29 year-olds, reads the polling memo. Throughout March, Bernie Sanders had 45% of the first choice vote share among Americas youngest voters. That support has steadily declined and currently sits at 33%....
With Bernie Sanders at 19 points in this poll, hes a far cry from the 30 percent or so he wants for his force himself upon a brokered convention scenario (understanding that the popular vote and delegate allocation arent a one-to-one calculation, but close enough). Its been clear hes been maxed out for a whileboth his and his supporters ornery approach to politics dont lend themselves to big-tent embrace of a broader coalition. Quite the opposite, in fact.
He cant grow, and if he cant hold his most important supporters? His path to the nomination, already near-zero, becomes effectively zero.
