Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumPoll: Biden's support INCREASES with age of voter. Sanders's support DECREASES with age of voter.
The bar graphs are on page 6.
Biden's support ranges from 24% with the youngest voters (under 29) to 52% the oldest (65+).
Sanders's support ranges from 33% with the youngest to 9% with the oldest.
Biden and Sanders are the only listed candidates whose support strongly correlates with age. For example, Harris draws 8-9% support from ALL age groups.
However, Sanders's support with the youngest (under 29) has dropped significantly -- from 45% in March to 33% now.

(31,167 posts)Look, I'd really hope a Biden/Harris ticket would capture the imagination that eluded so many protest voters last election. It probably would. But there's no guarantee Biden gets the nomination, or that Harris would accept a VP bid.
This is such cart before the horse stuff.
"Two white men:" doesn't that border on gender bias? Especially since one would have no idea who the other "white" man would be (and let's assume it wouldn't be Sanders)?

(6,228 posts)Folks want normalcy. They want someone who knows the White House in and out. Folks want to beat trump. They don't want to take a chance on newbies. Biden/Harris would be a great ticket. We have not had a woman VP. She would be positioned to become President. Sadly, Americans are way behind other countries when it comes to electing women leaders.

(4,830 posts)Biden has been around AND highly visible for a long time. Blue collar and relatable.
Bernie has been around a long time, but his message on health care, economic inequality and free college proposal appeals to younger voters. However, much of his message is voiced by others who have positions that address many of his concerns.

However, what happens if he cant hold that core? This isnt 2016, with a binary choice between Bernie and a demonized establishment Democrat. This is a rich field, with credible candidates representing just about every key party constituency. There are candidates just as liberal as Bernie, yet not as polarizing. So would Bernies core supporters stick with him as they became better aware of this amazing field? Apparently not, according to the latest Morning Consult primary poll.
Sanders on the decline with 18-29 year-olds, reads the polling memo. Throughout March, Bernie Sanders had 45% of the first choice vote share among Americas youngest voters. That support has steadily declined and currently sits at 33%....
With Bernie Sanders at 19 points in this poll, hes a far cry from the 30 percent or so he wants for his force himself upon a brokered convention scenario (understanding that the popular vote and delegate allocation arent a one-to-one calculation, but close enough). Its been clear hes been maxed out for a whileboth his and his supporters ornery approach to politics dont lend themselves to big-tent embrace of a broader coalition. Quite the opposite, in fact.
He cant grow, and if he cant hold his most important supporters? His path to the nomination, already near-zero, becomes effectively zero.
