43. For Democrats, it's no longer a ceremonial position.
Remember the roles Biden played as vice president? He’s going to want his own partner to work with him. This is becoming a very important and powerful position.
And that means the choice isn’t all about “who can best help get me elected and not be a nuisance?” Remember Hillary and Elizabeth Warren meeting a number of times? Much that was discussion and negotiation over the role Warren would play and the agenda she would hope to pursue as Hillary’s adjunct. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

Last edited Thu May 16, 2019, 03:20 PM - Edit history (1) hypothetically why she wouldn’t get it, I think minimizes the gender factor which would help the ticket, regardless where she came from if she wasn’t the nominee, and offered the VP slot

56. It's not my decision. I'm sure his team will weight the options.
But they normally go for a VP who can bring in a state or help in a purple or weak area. Harris & Warren both are from areas that are Democratic, anyway. So they don't help in that way. Still, as you say, hiring a minority woman might help enough just generally, no matter what area she represents.
I hate to see the Democrats lose a good female Senator, though. Harris & Warren would be big losses in the Senate. If there is a woman or minority who could help, from one of those need-help-with areas, I would think they'd look there. Klobuchar helps with the rust belt, and I think her ideology is close to Biden's. But Biden is already strong there...still, it's not a lock. She could help with that, maybe. MN was very close in 2016. Gillibrand is from NY. Again from the NE. Plus, there are big problems with Gillibrand generally, among Democrats. I thought Abrams would be a good possibility, but I think she has said that if she is involved at all, it would be for the Presidency and not as a VP on anyone's ticket. GA is Republican and probably won't vote Democratic, but Trump didn't win by a large margin, so it's possible it'd go Democratic. But she adds strength to the southern states, generally. Not my decision. We'll see. IF he wins the nomination. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Undecided |

Last edited Thu May 16, 2019, 03:56 PM - Edit history (1) applies, but sure, usually if the candidate is from a blue state the VP is from a red or purple state to balance the ticket, I am just suggesting gender might be sufficient to balance it

their brands are gone very soon for sure. Before preferably!
![]() But I wouldn’t want the nomination wrapped up quite that fast. I would hope what more of the other states have to say would still matter too. For decades in California, my husband and I usually knew who our nominee would be, and always the president, before we ever voted, but we figured it was better that way than most of the country having it basically settled weeks or months before they got to vote. So hoping for a nice Democratic middle ground between a Super Tuesday decision and the fuss at the convention that some worry about. 47. He wouldn't take a VP slot. Anyone who has followed his decision knows...
that the reason he is running is because people have asked him to, to beat Trump in an election. And also because Biden sees this as final chance to finally get elected as President.
There would be no point in him being VP. He can't "beat" Trump as VP, would not be able to direct the country's policies, and he's already been VP so there's no personal goal attainment there. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Undecided |

that she "hit Biden on Crime Bill"...
**************************************************************** Speaking with reporters in Nashua, New Hampshire, Harris also hit Biden for his support of the 1994 crime bill, which the California Democrat said contributed “to mass incarceration in our country.” “It encourages and was the first time that we had a federal three strikes law,” Harris noted, adding that she “sadly” disagrees with the former vice president over his support of the bill. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

We need the new young fresh, and courageous generation of Democrats to run the show now. Not go back to a time that Republicans have long ago left behind, and just laugh at its naivety. If it was a joke, it missed its mark. But if you say it was just a joke (maybe she's tired of being asked that), then I accept that. She's not super experienced on the national campaign trail. Saying something you think is fine sometimes doesn't go over well.
I wish people would stop blaming the media for gaffes made by candidates. People complain candidates don't get enough air time, then complain when they ARE covered if they show gaffes or something unflattering. The media can't win for losing, as they say. But it would've struck me the same way regardless of the gender, race, weight, height, or religious affiliation of the person saying it. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Undecided |
