'We're cutting out some of this ear hair': Beto goes live from the barbershop

Politico

The ribbing he took for live-streaming his visit to the dentist earlier this year appears to have had no effect on Beto O’Rourke.

The former Texas congressman was back on Facebook on Wednesday — live from the barbershop for a hair cut.

“We’re cutting out some of this ear hair that you get when you get older,” O’Rourke told the camera, as his barber maneuvered a clipper. “It grows out of your ears, and if you don’t get it cut, it can be nasty.”

The live-stream, from Chema’s Barber Shop in O’Rourke’s hometown of El Paso, Texas, followed a spate of campaigning by the Democratic presidential contender in New Hampshire, followed by a fundraiser and media appearances in New York.

I don't personally care about transparency at the dentist or haircut, though I can understand that some voters like to connect with candidates in a more human level.

But I do like that his political life is also very transparent. He doesn't take money from PACs but he has recently started doing a few fundraisers for individuals (like most but not all of the major candidates). However these are also live streamed so there is transparency with what he says

36. Barbershop photos and videos of presidential candidates are older than I am
Thu May 16, 2019, 06:38 AM
May 2019

And I'm over 50 years old. If any other candidate did it there would be nothing but praise and admiration...but Beto is attacked and bashed on the daily, and using misinformation and dishonest news articles that are twisted and inaccurate. I'm starting to understand how Bernie supporters felt in 2016. This is how people end up disengaged and disillusioned. Beto is a genuinely GOOD person and a GREAT candidate. He doesn't say anything negative about ANYONE and has vowed to rally his supporters to help WHOEVER the nominee is if it's not him. We all saw what happens when supporters feel their candidate is NOT treated fairly. It pisses off their supporters and some end up saying to hell with it and staying home. I am seeing so much frustration, anger and disgust on social media from Beto supporters over all the media attacks because he live streams EVERYTHING, so his supporters KNOW what is true and what's not. I think it's important NOT to give any voters a reason to feel justified in believing their candidate didn't get fair treatment.

This video was NOT about ear hair or about getting a hair cut (like every male candidate does on camera.) It was about Manuel, the owner of the Barber Shop and putting a face on how immigration benefits this country. But Politico took a couple of seconds of a joke Beto made and twisted it to imply something else, totally IGNORING what the real topic of the video was. Then someone chooses to post it here to make it sound as unflattering as possible while also ignoring the real content of the video to invite negative responses from others here.

It's very unfortunate to see inaccurate smear articles like this posted here. If nothing else it allows me to make a mental note of which posts I need to really verify in the future to check on accuracy.

Other politicians have photographed their haircuts as shown above.

What is silly is that the media is deciding to make a big deal of this instead of the the issues and policies that I'd say is about 98% of his campaign. He does occasionally lighten it up with things like this haircut and a recent missing turtle mystery ( did his dog do it? No, his kids pet turtle ended up found safe and sound).

But of course actually covering things like his climate plan, his answer on Latin American foreign policy on Maddow's show, his support for the Medicare for America plan and what that entails, his strong support for reproductive choice, etc. wouldn't fit the MSM narrative so course it is his haircut that gets covered.

Had a sit down lunch with Al Sharpton and ate fried chicken and collard greens while Sharpton munched on toast....nobody said a damn thing about it. To me, despite my love for both fried chicken and collard greens, that shit was pandering and stereotypical. But Beto sitting down for a haircut and talking to the guy about his real world experience and cracking a joke about ear hair is apparently terrible terrible optics.

This type of stuff irritates me to no end

I was completely embarrassed watching that.

Can you imagine if O'Rourke had done this?

The "he should've run for the Senate" gang would've swarmed in immediately.

If memory serves. No one is picking on Beto.

Try not to take it personally when a candidate gets heat. They will all get it.

I have to admit it surprises me that he would do this kind of thing again, especially after the blowback on the teeth cleaning.

So he got a haircut and while doing that he had a conversation with the barber and made a joke. How scandalous.
