.... ahead of his closest rival. In some he's barely under 50% against ALL 20+ rivals, but of course some would say it's within the margin of error.

Surely if it came down to two or three others that would put him over that 50% level. Anyone looking at this objectively would say he's almost a shoo in for the nomination.

Two months today he's reposed and I'm a plethora of benign and ungood emotions.

You are correct about Hillary. Rush Limbaugh and the right-wing echo chamber had been ragging on her since 1994, and the pathetic Republicans in Congress spent years 'investigating' her alleged misdoings in Benghazi and her email server. They bragged about these phony investigations costing Hillary the election.

IMO, the policies of the pro-corporate Democrats represented by Bill and Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, are what cost the Democrats in 2016. If Biden wins the nomination, it will probably be a even worse in 2020.

You need to have a reason to vote FOR a candidate, not against a candidate, even a pathetic shit-bag like Trump.

Will young people vote for a man who, at almost 50 years old, was driving around town with a camera, creeping out little kids? Or discussing cocaine with 5 year olds? Or over-sharing with the public on how disorganized and sloppy his personal life was? I don't think so.

I say something that has in my head for close to 3 years now and I have kept quiet, because I know it will upset some people. Rest assured I am simply making an observation based on my near 60 years among the living. On to my 2 points and what scares me.

Firstly, I refuse to believe that we will not win this election, therefore we all know this country is going to be a mess. This is why I am leaning Biden/Harris ticket as I stated months ago. Biden has intimate knowledge of 8 years IN the House that no one else has, and can also mentor/Train Sen. Harris for her turn in 4 years as I think Biden would do one term.

This segues into my main point that we may or may not want to accept. Simply, we know that The R base are scumbags, snakes,,add any adjective you wish. We cant fix them, it is the next 20% just above these mouth breathers that worry me, if we run,Sen Warren, or Senator Harris, or any of the qualified female runners. These folks are a lot closer to the swamp than being able to admit that they could/would vote for a female. My feelings are that there could be millions of votes lost there instantly. I could even argue to an open mind that those same votes cost Sec. Clinton enough votes to totally blow away the idiot and not even make it possible to meddle.
Most of our fellow citizens are followers and just as they shrug and get "used" to the knuckle draggin Neanderthal that is there now, during the 4 years of VP Harris,, the country would be baby stepped into the sensible world. The one thing I have seen in elections that I believe is Americans have never really followed the unknown in an election,,unless there was a known idea in their head they hated worse than the unknown.
I do believe it could happen again this way,,a lot of voters who hate trump and my vote Biden given teh points I laid out, ar ea very short brain wave away from I wont ever vote for a woman.

In short, we MUST win this election for the sake of our country and need to look at all sides of equations, even those outside our hearts and comfort zones.

challenge to it.
No one in the running is not electable, no one 100 per cent a shoe-in.
Biden’s candidacy has some features that make for “electability,” but these are only predisposing now; an argument can be made that, in Biden’s case, the issue is more one of popular perception at this stage.
You shouldn’t worry so much that Biden dims your favored candidates’ prospects.
He has not won the primary yet, and they have not lost.

In the polls, which haven't finished bouncing upwards for Biden at the state level, he's the strongest candidate the Democrats have against Trump.

Biden does currently benefit from being known the best. The other candidates will reel him in some.

We have a bunch of debates and nine months of campaigning before the primaries so it is too early to call anything.

My bigger concern is whether we're getting sucked into preparing to beat Trump and the GOP pull the plug on him and bring in another candidate who matches up better. I feel like we might be in a political rope-a-dope except the GOP get to switch fighters in the later rounds.

These characterizations are disgusting to me, to quote you:

"Rahm Emanuel Democrats"
"Walmart Democrats"
"Lesser of two evils"

Then you go on to say "We need to be totally united to beat them"? Nice "unity"!

By the way, if you're going to make statements like "it will be the most crushing defeat since George McGovern in 1972", you might want to check your history. Even George McGovern wasn't "it will be the most crushing defeat since George McGovern in 1972".

Your first thesis statement includes the words, "I believe", while your second statement "graciously" permits others to disagree, while simultaneously informing us that the "truth" has already been decided.

You have a right to express your opinions. You have a responsibility to support your point of view with facts and reasoning. However, the way you have framed your perspective in your thread title sounds a little imperious.

You may be correct in your assessment of Biden's chances of getting elected, or you may not be. The simple fact is that no one knows the future and you have, thus far, not demonstrated that your analysis is superior to that of many who may disagree with you.

Joe Biden might seem like a Bolshevik to the MAGA Magoos or a race-mixer to the Trump-loving white supremacist bigots, but he not only represents our values and he also signals a return to sanity, something I think would not only hearten our now-aroused and angry base but also enough of the folks who were bamboozled by Donnie to get Team Donkey over the finish line.

Bless Bernie Sanders, but his appeal seems to center around idealistic young pale-faces of the sorts who lacked enough political maturity to stand against Donnie last time around and instead took their marbles and went home instead of voting.

Bless Bernie Sanders, God love him, but he seems to do better in small whitebread states than in the multi-racial lelectoral vote-rich states that could sink Orange Julius.

I don't think there's been a candidate this far ahead of the pack this early, who hasn't won the nomination.

He's not just ahead. You have to combine almost all the poll votes for all the others to get the numbers that Biden has.

It's name recognition, and the feeling of going back to normalcy, I think. Biden. Like a comfortable shoe. The others can't compete with that.

This is not an issues election. This is a personality and experience and can-beat-Trump election. He's the only one who people think has a serious chance, or is likely to win.

I wish there were someone else. But I don't see any of the others having a better chance of beating Trump. But I'm not sure Biden can, either. I just don't know.

I don't have a crystal ball. I don't care for Biden much. Even I, a standard liberal who is not on the far left, thinks Biden is back to the same ol' same ol'. Too prior generation. Too stuck in the old time ways.

But honestly, the others aren't better. There are issues with them all.

Independents and conservative Democrats will NOT vote for Sanders. His name is synonymous with socialism, rightly or wrongly. They may not vote for Trump, but they may stay home or vote third party.

The others aren't well known and so far haven't stood out in the crowd enough.

I just don't know. I was hoping for a strong leader-type of governor, but one did not appear. Inslee is a gov., but the way he relates is lackluster, so far.

But Biden seems to be the one that most voters are going for. He's the only well known one among for most people. So...I don't know. You'd think out of 20-something candidates, there would be one charismatic standout. So far, there's not.

158. Words of wisdom
Thu May 16, 2019, 04:55 AM
May 2019

Many will make the exact same mistake and back the most popular Democrat, amongst Democrats, blissfully projecting that onto a sure win in 2020. They do this by assuming two things, how little yet another corporate catering, third way, foreign interventionist, moderate (meaning status quo) will appeal to the ones on the left, that feel they already came so close with Sanders last time, and after the promise of AOC and this new energy pumped into the party by younger more left reps, there was an expectation of a real shift forward, progress from a party that calls itself progressive. Biden represents stability, status quo, but meanwhile the wealthy get wealthier and monopolies grow larger, net neutrality disappears, the poor get angrier.

We need a candidate that can 1. get people excited with new ideas, and 2. find support amongst Independents and other undecided. Which would be Sanders or Gabbard. Possibly Warren.

This election primary will be a battle of the right and the left, the past and the future, and more importantly, if we think we can win by,

A. Nominating the most popular, perfect, boy or girl in the class. Because we just know that once everyone in the school gets to see them, they'll all fall in love too.

...this way also must count on the votes of the outcasts, the goths, or whomever, in the same class to support the class decision. And we will need ALL of these to win because we can't count on anyone outside our class to vote the same.

B. Nominate who is only the most popular if you add all the ones in your class that will vote, even holding their noses, together with the votes from the other classes where they are popular with a small minority in each.

....this way we count on those independents and no-Trumpers to not hate, and maybe even vote for our candidate enough to put them over the top. And we win that way.

Its a gamble either way. It will be interesting to see what is finally decided. I think its time for a change, America is open to it. and I'm not convinced that another establishment candidate, who will be tarred with anything Clinton or Obama by Fox, GOP, and even an impatient young left base, would be the best decision.
