Beto O'Rourke talks to immigrant barber to show REAL face of border immigrants

And right wing pundits and Beto haters focus on him getting a haircut (like all male politicians do) and two second joke about ear hair. (no actual ear hair shown or harmed in the making of this video)

Here is the actual video...decide for yourselves.

There was another thread that showed photos of many presidents and presidential candidate's getting haircuts as part of their campaign throughout the decades. But Beto decides to include an interview with his barber to put a face on the immigration issue, and all of a sudden it is not presidential. It is telling that the quick joke Beto made is getting more coverage than the immigration issue

Perhaps that is because I think it's stupid to judge people on such dumb and shallow things. Beto live streams EVERYTHING on facebook, so his supporters know exactly what he does and says. The media is doing one hit piece after another on him and are NOT reporting accurately at all. He never has a negative word to say about any other candidate running and has even stood up for Mayor Pete when those homophobe hecklers went after him in Texas. Beto does NOT deserve the kind of treatment he is getting. If you want an accurate representation of what an article reports on...check his facebook because there is a 99% chance the real story is on video there.

It would be difficult to win a statewide race in 2020 against Sen. Cornyn who is held in higher esteem than Ted Cruz. The next statewide race is for governor in 2022 and Greg Abbott is popular among the GOP voters. He could run against Cruz again in 2024, but there isn't any indication that he would win if he waited that long. In short, the possibility of Beto winning a statewide race in Texas is near zero for at least five more years.

I think Beto made the best choice for his immediate political future. Even if he doesn't succeed in the primaries, I think that he would be an excellent running mate for most of the candidates and could put Texas into play for the general election.

I do wish that he was less hyperactive since it distracts from his message, but I think that he is as electable as any other candidate that has entered the race.

It's as powerful as the governor's job and Dan Patrick is not well liked, he won by about 5 points against a little known candidate last year. And there's no more straight party voting.

What O'Rourke has to worry about now is other Democratic candidates damaging him by running below-the-belt campaigns. Some of the dumbest excuses are popping up about him, like the arm waving (have you ever seen AOC talk?)

I realize that everyone is going to have their preferred candidates in the race and that there will also be criticisms about all of the candidates since it's the nature of political campaigns. I do wish that the media would focus on the candidates records, policies, and some of the details about how they handled adversity and success rather than the trivial stuff like ear hair.

I also don't believe that we should be dismissive of any of the candidates. Unfortunately, the article that was posted earlier today took a condescending and dismissive tone towards Beto. We've seen similar articles about all of the other candidates and I've filed nearly all of those articles in the trash bin. In the end, all of our candidates are better than Trump and I will vote for the Democratic nominee in November 2020.

But many still choose to ignore it. Ultimately, Beto is a threat to their chosen candidates. If he were getting accurate and fair media coverage he would be in the top 3 in polling. If he doesn't win the nomination then he would also be a top contender for VP, so he is also viewed as a threat to those candidates as well.

I'm glad they are at least advertising his CNN Town Hall next week pretty aggressively. He especially shines when answering policy questions from voters, even the ones that are difficult. He did really well on Rachel Maddow, too. The HBO documentary on the 28th should help too.

They see him as a major threat.

I know some people are misinformed, but the so-called stories have stuck with many, including African American voters over his statements such as "all lives matter", the police chief, and gentrification.

I have seen nothing about building Walmarts, skateboarding, eating dirt, or writing poor, vaguely obscene poetry in any of my candidates’ backgrounds.

That stuff will be devastating if he were to be our nominee. He was unable to even beat Cruz.

Beto actually has thick skin - for most of his campaign in Texas the media treated him like some kind of weirdo on a fool's errand - he basically ignored the noise and focused on building his massive GOTV network using social media

His skills as a leader and motivator are evident

It's very easy to tell when the media and others are less than honest. The agenda is very easy to spot. But hey, it has made me see that there are even some supposedly reputable sources who are not as reliable as I once thought. Now I will verify everything rather than automatically trust reports. Sucks to have to be so cynical but that is what happens when you see bogus reports so often.

It's one thing to debate policies and things that are important...but getting a haircut and making a joke about ear hair while highlighting the story of an immigrant does NOT warrant the feigned outrage.
