The controversy stems from diplomatic actions by Biden while his son, Hunter Biden, sat on the board of Burisma Group, one of the countrys biggest private gas companies. As vice president, Biden pursued an anti-corruption policy in Ukraine in 2016 that included a call for the resignation of the countrys top prosecutor who had previously investigated Burisma.
Yuriy Lutsenko, the current prosecutor general, said that neither Hunter Biden nor Burisma were now the focus of an investigation. He added, however, that he was planning to offer details to U.S. Attorney General William Barr about Burisma board payments so American authorities could check whether Hunter Biden paid U.S. taxes on the income.

(37,648 posts)so he did have something to do with Ukraine. The problematic part is that the prosecutor had investigated the Ukranian company that his son, Hunter, was on the board of.
So there is a connection with the country. I don't believe for a second that there was anything wrong with any of that. But I'd just prefer a candidate that has had nothing to do with Ukraine or Russia or other Russia-connected countries.

(5,954 posts)...because Shokin BLOCKED INVESTIGATIONS INTO CORRUPTION as bad news for Biden?
I don't. If the right wing noise machine wants to make an issue out of this on Fux Noise, more power to them! But if I were them, I'd shut up about it, and hope everyone forgets it as soon as possible. Back to childish nicknames and Anita Hill. That's the best they can do against Biden.

(37,648 posts)If the article is wrong, someone should have flagged it as incorrect.
It says the prosecutor investigated the company. Not that he blocked an investigation. This is the excerpt in the OP:
In any case, this is why I'd prefer a candidate w/o any ties to Russian-connected countries. This is not the conversation we should be having about a candidate.

(37,648 posts)But there's no need to do the "of course you do" to every post that expresses a wish to have a candidate without an issue like this.
There is no reason to assume I would feel that way, since I am not supporting any of the candidates thus far. Altho I'm leaning away from Biden. That may change.
It's not up to me or you, though.

(37,648 posts)I expressed a calm, non-hateful genuine opinion. Unless you're very insecure, there's no reason to personally attack me or the others who expressed the same opinion.
Each of us is entitled to an opinion.
All things being equal, it's just common sense that it would be better not to have a Ukraine-connection issue. I said, and I repeat, the accusations about the connection are false, but the underlying facts about the connection are real, if the OP excerpt is correct. If it's not correct, you need to report it to the OP, so he/she can remove the incorrect post.
When you attack people for expressing what amounts to a minor opinion on a minor subject, it moves people away from your candidate.

On what basis does AG Barr get access to Hunter Biden's tax returns or get someone to review them for him? Why only Hunter Biden? Are there no other American board members?
Hypocritical for this administration, isn't it (given what they're fighting over in court about the President's tax returns)?
Not that that would bother Barr or Trump ...
