Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWent to Bernie's rally in Asheville NC yesterday
Overflow crowd. Bernie went outside in the parking lot first to address those who couldnt get in.
His speech inside was inspired and powerful. We all baked in the hot sun together. Everything about it, including the sweat, was authentic. The crowd was a joy.
Bernie was right on the mark on every subject he touched on. Being from the NE, Ive been familiar with Sanders long before he decided to run for president. Hes for real.
I will, of course, support whatever Democratic candidate is chosen! We have excellent candidates to choose from!
But I personally feel the whole planet would be best off with Bernie as president.
So sue me!!! lol

This is what we need in a candidate if we are going to win. "His speech inside was inspired and powerful."

(34,661 posts)despite what the Pundit Class in DC and NYC are crowing about. The opposite is happening. Our Nation wants change in a big way and it appears no matter who is doing a rally, massive crowds are showing up and they are not just Dems out there supporting there Candidate.
As with Bush and Reagan, the Natives are restless and want a real President.

(23,002 posts)passionately, and in unison. "Whenever one or more of us are gathered in their name....there is love." Campy, but true. And you KNOW what I'm saying after your description above. Hugely rewarding. I applaud you getting out! Going to speeches, and rallies, and marches and protests ESPECIALLY in the good old summertime just feels right.
"Just'us (justice) Marches" where ALL topics and grievances can be aired, and tackled head on, while we all catch a few rays, and show each other some love and support. WITHOUT a phone or computer screen as an intermediary. Marching like we're French. And marching bc we need the exercise, and don't fear anything in our platform. Democratic Platform ideas make life easier and better for all of us, so we can engage in some prosperity without agitation from the 1%. It lifts ALL of us. Even the 1%. We have such cool and loving ideas. Honestly. Democrats are some big brained, extra cool people. We OUTNUMBER them. 2 to 1.
Days like you describe, remind me of outdoor concerts, and sitting in the grass.
Leaves are out, and the grass is so green. Global Warming could take that comfort away in our lifetimes. That's no joke...folks. NOW, is when we can go outside and love and enjoy the Earth, that has given us everything, and co-mingle with the 2/3rds PLUS of sane people and enjoy some satisfying emotional symbiosis. It's quite exhilarating.
Re-sets my psyche every time. Erases fear for a while.
I wouldn't choose Bernie (yet) unless he wins the primary, but I'm so glad Democrats Party Planks and Platform is being spoken OUT loud, in a venue and forum, that restores humanity in all of us. Namely by being together. Without computers between us.

(12,847 posts)I love the mountains and waterfalls of western North Carolina, and have traveled there many times from my home in Chicagoland to go hiking.
I supported Bernie in 2016 and would vote for him or Biden or any other Dem in a heartbeat over Trump or anybody the Rethugs put up.
However, I am what many would deride as an "ageist." I think both Sanders and Biden are past the age for the stress and all the demands of the presidency. Biden would be 82 at the end of his first term.
Also, I have no interest in the "horse race" at this stage. I'm all about issues and seeing who can articulate the best ideas while demonstrating the leadership necessary to carry the Democratic Party to victory in 2020 and well into the future.
Great to see the energy and enthusiasm Bernie and others are bringing to town halls and rallies. We need all hands on board to keep that up towards a common goal.

(6,007 posts)I have seen a lot of shade on Bernie and there is gushing praise for Biden . . and his great speech yesterday. I would gladly vote for either of them, but here is one thought.
If you look back in history, when an important inflection point was upon us, Bernie was always on the right side and Biden was always on the wrong side. We can all be infatuated, but I think you must also let your intelligence guide you. One has always been correct in the time when something is happening and one has always somehow found themselves on the wrong side. Sure, you can love both. Both have characteristics and qualities that are noble. I would want someone who always seems to get it right even when the pressures of the MOMENT are pushing against that. It takes a true leader to forge on through the headwinds.
Just sayin' . . .
I would gladly vote for either, especially over Trump, but I think there is a WHOLE lot more that needs to change besides just removing Trump. Trump is the symptom, I think we need the doctor who has always gotten the diagnosis correctly.

(94,384 posts)...it was pretty much a rerun of his rallies in 2016 with the additional "I grew up caring about civil rights" language to address his problems attracting AA voters.
The problem I see is: rallies are what he does; and that doesn't generate new voters, it reinforces the old ones. Since he couldn't find enough voters last time, and there are more choices this time, I don't see the model working.
