https://www.hbo.com/documentaries/running-with-beto/aboutDavid Modiglianis behind-the-scenes documentary Running with Beto follows Democratic Congressman Beto O'Rourke's rise from virtual unknown to national political sensation. Modigliani embedded with the O'Rourke campaign for a year as ORourke staged a bold, grassroots attempt to unseat Ted Cruz and represent Texas in the U.S. Senate. The film draws on intimate access to O'Rourke, his tight-knit family and his team of political newcomers, who champion a new way of getting to know a candidate one Texas county at a time.

(314 posts)The clips that I saw seem interesting.
It's too bad he's so far down that no one is paying attention to him.

(2,113 posts)And plenty of people are paying attention to him, especially young people, who don't typically get polled. The reviews of the screenings all consistently say that it is truly inspiring and people leave feeling energized, excited, motivated and hopeful.

The Atlantic:
So 'Beto fatigue' is now a thing, and it has become endemic according to pundits. Disgusting.

(16,294 posts)My biggest takeaway was that his staff was wet behind the ears and not up to the task. A more competent staff might have made the difference. Also, if we could have a million women like the volunteer featured in the film we could eradicate half of the GOP in Congress. An amazing, spirited Dem.

(2,113 posts)Beto just doesn't slow down long enough for them to have time to do everything he wanted them to do, lol. He is seriously the hardest working politician I have ever seen in my life. He knows how to get young people engaged, volunteering and to the polls. An incredible 500% increase in young voters casting votes for him. If that were done on a national scale it would flip so many red state offices at the state and local level that we might be able to combat some of these crazy ass right wing attacks on women.

(22,236 posts)If you want to see a rare politician who seems to genuinely care about his constituents and country more than anything else including his own political career, look no further than Beto O'Rourke. At least that's the way I felt after watching it.

There is clearly unified messaging behind the new meme - "Beto fatigue", "Beto overload" - in other words "nobody wants to hear about Beto". And the writers are in her camp.

(89,240 posts)especially since along with that message is that Beto's support went to Pete. interesting they name Pete specifically since it's more likely that Biden is the reason that is making it difficult for Beto and other democrats like Harris to get higher in the polls right now. Not Pete who is maybe a couple to 5 points or so ahead of Beto in various polls which isn't much. and his support seems to have mostly stalled in that lower range also.
i hope they appear in the debate together so we can clearly see the difference.

(2,113 posts)Beto has a very clear and firm understanding of any issue or policy they could ask him about. It would be kind of funny seeing them on the same stage, though, since Beto is almost a foot taller.
