Amy Klobuchar recalled John McCains searing response to Trumps inauguration. Meghan McCain wasnt having it.
In 2008, Sen. John McCain was the Republican presidential nominee. But for 2020 contenders, his name is apparently off limits, at least as far as his family is concerned. One such candidate, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), was publicly scolded by the late Arizona Republicans daughter on Monday after she shared an anecdote about how McCain had reportedly rattled off the names of dictators during President Trumps inauguration.
On behalf of the entire McCain family @amyklobuchar please be respectful to all of us and leave my fathers legacy and memory out of presidential politics, tweeted Meghan McCain, one of the late senators seven children and a co-host of ABCs The View.
Speaking before an audience of roughly 200 people during a Saturday campaign stop in Des Moines, Klobuchar described Trumps inauguration as dark and recalled how she sat on the stage between John McCain and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) that day while Trump delivered a speech about rampant crime, rusted-out factories and American carnage. The fiery populist rhetoric apparently reminded McCain of various authoritarian figures from throughout history. John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation. He understood it, Klobuchar said on Saturday, according to NBC News. He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did.

Klobuchar, who has described McCain as a mentor and visited him at his ranch in Arizona while he was fighting cancer, has frequently spoken out against such attacks. A spokesman told The Washington Post that she has great respect for McCains family but did not indicate whether that meant Klobuchar would avoid using the anecdote in future.
Senator Klobuchar had a longtime friendship with Senator McCain, she has defended him against President Trumps attacks in the past, and she has deep respect for his family, said Tim Hogan, the campaigns communications director. While she was simply sharing a memory, she continues to believe that the best stories about Senator McCain are not about the views he had about President Trump: They are about McCains own valor and heroism.

(47,479 posts)He has been part of important events of this country for many years. He ran for President, Trump belittled him, still does, he killed the "repeal of the ACA."

(102,276 posts)Phoned, Texted, Emailed her--sent a GOT raven. Instead, she made it a big public spectacle. (Undoubtedly to reassure her very RW husbands "minders" that she wasn't going too far off the Trump reservation.
And McCain lived his life as a public person. NOTHING Klobuchar said was disrespectful and NOTHING she said was out of bounds for a long time friend of the very public, very outspoken, long term Senator or AZ.
I've defended Meghan and her family throughout. But, this rings exploitative to me (and not on the part of Klobuchar)
I agree with George Conway on this:

(7,447 posts)She can censor and silence any and all discussion of a well-known Senator?
I don't think so. There was nothing negative about that comment. Nothing unseemly, Meghan just didn't like a Democrat making it.

(7,447 posts)yes, she has "the right" to open her mouth and say most anything.
Generally speaking though, you were commenting FAVORABLY on her doing so.

(34,452 posts)Means is that you can ask someone to do something, but Klobuchar can also respectfully decline to say yes to it.

(52,162 posts)Senator McCain was a pubic official at a public event paid for with public money and spoke the words in public knowing they were being heard. We had, and have, every earthly right to know what those words were.

(32,974 posts)She has had some significant behavioral changes.
Maybe she's angling for a RW show, maybe b/c her hubby, but she seems more brittle.

(10,147 posts)she's really not very personable, she doesn't know much, she whines a lot...her only real achievement in life is winning the birth lottery. I really don't see why they keep her on the View.

(12,448 posts)Meghan would be a file clerk somewhere. But if she'd whine in that job like she does constantly now, she wouldn't keep even that. As someone said, she's not very bright.
