(5,793 posts)Former Vice President Joe Bidens campaign took its strongest position yet on impeachment of President Trump on Wednesday, with the campaign saying it may be unavoidable in the wake of special counsel Robert Muellers remarks earlier that day.
~~
In his remarks Wednesday, Mueller emphasized that while his investigation should not be interpreted as an exoneration of Trump, Justice Department policy prevented him from charging a sitting president with a crime.
The Special Counsel made clear that it is incumbent that Congress pick up the pieces of his report on which he did not reach definitive conclusions or that he could not act upon due to Department of Justice guidance, the statement reads. Congress must do everything in its power to hold this Administration to account. That is what Congress is doing and should do: continue to investigate.
The Biden campaigns emphasis on allowing congressional investigations to play out echoes that of Democratic congressional leadership. Earlier this month, after reportedly initially pressing Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to be more open to impeachment, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) counseled patience on the various House investigations, citing court victories in House Democrats efforts to subpoena various records from the White House and Trumps businesses.
Bidens statement accuses the Trump administration of throwing up roadblocks against congressional investigations and calls Attorney General William Barrs investigation into the origins of the Russia probe an extraordinary internal vendetta against law enforcement and intelligence community investigators who were doing their job.

(37,648 posts)Sidestepping a bit. Impeachment may be unavoidable. Maybe. At some point in the future. Maybe. Don't know when. If ever.

(37,748 posts)A long and winding inference, lacking any substance to support it as well.
But I get it... we often tell ourselves what best suits our narrative, and deny all other possibilities. Like really bad B-movies.

(642 posts)you are right, but there could conceivably be federal money authorized for this, through the Dept of Education.
Plus a president can influence what state governments do, and they can have an impact on state teacher salaries.
Plus, Biden is running for president and it makes a good sound bite.

(37,648 posts)Raising teachers' salaries continues on into the future. The fed could do something for now or for a short while, but doesn't have control over teachers' salaries. That's what I thought.
Sound bite.

(37,648 posts)I haven't seen that.
No matter who says that, my response would be the same. Candidates usually say teacher salaries SHOULD be raised, not that he will raise them. But I haven't seen the others say that. To be fair, I only pay attention to several of the candidates, since I'm not interested in the others.

(16,719 posts)I don't know if the federal government has regulations on teacher pay, but it's always the legislature who handles pay raises in Mississippi. They've been fighting over it since I was in school. I graduated in 1987.

Go, Joe! In the information age, higher education especially should be both far better and less expensive than ever before.
