I think we all better learn to spell (and say) Buttigieg.

Right now I'd vote for him, absolutely.

'We' elected a black president, twice.
Will 'we' elect a gay president now?

I surely don't know
But this guy will be with us in politics for many years to come.
I think he is the genuine article.

Bright, guileless, honest, and straightforward.
A real breath of fresh air in the sordid world of p[politics.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

In India it means "bliss" and is a part of many saints' names. I'm currently reading stuff by an Indian saint named Paramahansa Yogananda. "Paramahansa" is a title given to a holy person and "Yogananda" means blissful union with God.

Is 'ananda" your name or did you happen across it some other way?

I saw a graph showing that the Af. American voter would vote for this one or that one...and Pete was a negative. As in below zero chance.

I wonder if it's the religious factor and being gay? I think the Af. American community has a higher percentage of religious people than other groups in the Democratic Party. They favor Biden, I think...as a group. Recognizing that no group votes in a monolithic way. Or is it because he hasn't made appearances yet in Af. American communities? (I don't know if he has or hasn't.)

The Af. American demographic is important in the Democratic Party.

But I can't help it...chance or not, likelihood or not, I can't help but like him. He has "it" factor and is the only one to enthuse me so far.

They might use this to keep the AA vote down in 2020, especially the "stories" regarding the former African American police chief. I know he has explained this in depth, but you know how operatives work.

Hopefully, for his sake, AA voters will vote for him.

The repugs will use his sexual preference against him if he gets the nomination. His lack of POC support won't be a matter in the general election as POC Dems will vote Dem. It will however, because of the lingering police chief isuue, most likely be one factor that will hinder his chances in the primaries, not to mention our other strong candidates who will pull votes.

candidate. Look at the number of Americans who were so obsessed with the idea of electing an African-American as president that they completely ignored what was going on with Prop 8 in California. I was on DU the next day; there was far more elation at having elected a President with a slightly darker hue of skin than there was outrage at the fact that we had stripped millions of their equal rights in California.

Unfortunately, even progressives seem to have a hierarchy of demographics that matter to us. Race is light years above anything else, then gender way below that, then lgbtqia is this barely visible speck at the bottom.

I don’t have a link handy but something like 75% of Americans say they would vote for a gay President.

I do agree with you that bigotry toward LGBTQ is often not as important an issue to many otherwise progressive people.

... I have to say he reminds me far too much of a young Tony Blair.

Young, smart, confident, articulate... to an extent that it seemed like he'd been pre-groomed for the role. And we know how that ended up.

Plus, I'm very uneasy with more and more intelligence officers running on the Dem ticket. It just doesn't feel right for a workers' party candidate, ya know?

But Indiana could really use a good governor, to undo the damage wrought by Pence and his band of GOPuritans. I think Mayor Pete could do great things for the Hoosier state.

Anyway, just me thinking / rambling out loud here. Fire away.
